One of my favorite yarns of all time. The yarn strikes a wonderful balance between being soft (definitely next-to-skin soft for me and most folks that are not wool-phobes) and wearing incredibly well. I made a cute striped cardigan with this yarn, and have worn it regularly (several times a week, at least) for over a year. There is nary a pill in sight, which is amazing to me. And, remembering back to when I was knitting with it, the yarn is wonderfully easy and pleasant to work with. Nice and smooth through the fingers with just a touch of halo from the alpaca fibers. I am extremely pleased with the yarn, both for the soothing knitting experience and the excellent finished product. Now... if only they would come out with more colors. Please?

I knitted a scarf for my boyfriend with this yarn. I've never purchased this yarn before, so based on other reviews, I expected the yarn to be very soft. Alpaca is typically very soft, warm yarn. However, it was not all that soft, pretty scratchy actually. And in one of the skeins, there were 5 felted joins!! I guess I need to remember, you get what you pay for.

Pros

  • Dyed Evenly
  • Nice Texture

Cons

  • Dye Bled A Lot

Best Uses

    Comments about Valley Yarns Stockbridge:

I bought the dark red color, which is a nice rich garnet. I used it to knit a cardigan for myself. The yarn is soft, because of the alpaca content, but of course is not very elastic, also because of the alpaca. Just be sure you choose a project appropriate for the character of the yarn. Overall I am very pleased with this yarn.

Cons - one skein contained a bristle of a brush - must have been used in preparing it for spinning. No big deal, I could pull it out with little damage to the yarn. I've just never seen this before. Also, the dye bled a lot during the soak for blocking. This might be because of the red color.

This has to be one of the softest yarn ever! I can't wait to make something with it, as I know it will be goegeous!!!! A lot of wools drive me crazy, but this one is so soft and I loved the feel of it!! I've recommended this yarn to my kniting buddies, they love it as well. I'm going to try and dye it, can't wait to see the results!

                Comments about Valley Yarns Stockbridge:

Got this yarn to make an infinity scarf for myself. Loved it! So soft and not itchy to wear. Knits very well. Though the colour in the photos on this website is different than it is in real life. On the photos the colour looks more vibrant and rich, where as in real life they are more muted. The Fire Dance one, for instance, looks more like a burnt orange and more brownish in real life. Though still nice. I've ordered 4 different colours so far and none of the colours were as expected. Also, for 1 colour I came up short on the yarn even though I had already knitted the exact same scarf using the exact same yarn, needles, stitches, pattern etc. The only thing different was the colour. Luckily, I called WEBS and they were kind enough to be willing to send me an extra skein so I can complete my project.
