  • Fiber Content: 100% Australian Merino Wool
  • Weight/Yardage: 2000YPP/~1lb. cones
  • Care: Hand Wash, Dry Flat
  • Sett: 16-24 epi

We got in a fantastic shipment of 2/8 Australian Merino Wool Mill Ends. Sold by the pound (on full cones only) at ~2000 yards per pound, we recommend a sett of 16–24 epi, though it's best to always weave a sample before starting a project. The yarn has a beautiful, tight twist that will loft and bloom when washed, making for soft and crisp handwovens. Available in Natural, which will dye beautifully.

Note: Sold by the pound on full cones only, no windoffs. Cones weigh approximately one pound, though price may be adjusted to reflect actual cone weight.

Soft Fiber

Comments about Yarn > Weaving Yarn 2/8 Australian Merino:

Fiber is soft and tight. Good for warp or weft. I bought for working with natural dyes.

Comments about Yarn > Weaving Yarn 2/8 Australian Merino:

I haven't woven with it yet. Based on another review I will increase the width and length. What impressed me was the softness. VERY SOFTY. It seems strong enough for a warp. I am working on a draft now to weave a throw. If asked I can up date this review later.

Comments about Yarn > Weaving Yarn 2/8 Australian Merino:

Fantastic deal on soft, squishy wool. The warp and much of the weft in this coat was made with it. It takes dye beautifully and is next-to-skin soft. I used a sett of 12 epi and the drape was beautiful but the fabric was firm enough/not sleazy. I used it in a scarf at 15 epi with an 8/2 tencel weft and felt the increase in epi would only work as a warp-faced weave with a thin weft. It is a bit thick/thin in places, with less consistency than some commercial yarns, but there were no knots in the 1.5 cones that I used and no breakage while working. The slight inconsistency does not show in the finished product (I did you a tweedy grey wool for some of the weft in the coat; that tweedy look is the result of the grey weft, not the 2/8 merino). I bought several extra cones to stock up. I would gladly recommend this product!

Great "hand"

Comments about Yarn > Weaving Yarn 2/8 Australian Merino:

I wove fabric for ponchos and liked the weight and soft "hand" of the end product. Did discover that the significant shrinkage factor needed to be considered in the overall design.
