This was such soft, easy to crochet yarn. The colors are beautiful and vibrant and the fiber holds together very well. I am fairly new at using high end yarns for crochet, even tho I have a small stash of Araucania yarns. The *only* issue I had with this yarn was the short colorways. I was using crocodile stitch for a shawl and was hoping for each scale to be a different color, but it came out more like confetti, if that makes sense. Still beautiful, just not what I was envisioning. My fault, not the yarn, but I thought it worth mentioning for any other crochet people out there. :)

I ordered the turquoise/brown/green color variation #5. I am an avid shawl knitter, and intended to make a shawl that were the colors of the sea, as a gift. I was shocked when the skein arrived. No turquoise, no brown at all. There are other dark blues and some jade green, but also significant mango orange/ bright lilac/yellow colors as well, that don't appear at all in the photo. Although the site states that there may be variation in color, the addition tones made the whole skein unusable. I was disappointed when customer service told me that I should have gone on Ravelry to see the different variations people have posted. Not worth the cost of returning. I have worked it up as a shawlette, but the color scheme doesn't work at all. Be very careful when ordering this yarn-

I have not started the project yet. However, when reading the instructions ahead of time, I was confused so I emailed the websites included and received an answer within a few days. (It was the weekend.) Looking forward to a new challenge and learning experience.

Purchased one hank of this to make shawl to give as a gift. The color ordered were the colors of the sea- mixed greens, blue, turquoise. The hank received was missing the predominant turquoise color completely and instead had lavendar, orange and yellow in it. I will end up using it for something else and have to repurchase yarn, since I don't want to pay shipping again to return it. A better choice would be Madelinetosh light merino. The colors received are always very close to the ones pictured, and they are beautiful.

            Comments about true Huasco:

I listed colorways in both the pro and con sections because a beautiful skein of Huasco can be one of the loveliest yarns you could hope to find. However, there is great inconsistency from skein to skein, moreso than you should really expect, even for a hand-dyed yarn. While every skein is unique, all of the colors (i.e. pumpkin, navy, and violet) should ALL be represented in any given skein of that colorway.

Also, Araucania makes some odd choices in new colorways that are pretty much a bust. Personally, I'd rather see them work harder to make the beautiful colorways more reliable as there's no less artistry in that. They will always be unique, so there's no harm in making them consistently gorgeous!

I've absolutely grown to love the feel and twist of this yarn though and the 450 yd skein is a wonderful size. Unfortunately, the last skein I received was relatively dull in its coloring (a caution for buying online I guess) and had a dye-lot number, which means it was an older skein as they no longer produce in dye lots.

I really am not experienced yet with yarn but this yarn taught me to understand what I thought was a complaint was actually a plus. This yarn does not split. I thought it sort of coarse and it might be be but it holds together. The color is brilliant in an intricate cable and because it is almost like a flax to handle the stitch definition is good but sometimes wobbly. The colors are so eccentric that I can not see it as overly useful but it has some wonderful qualities if one can use the color and has a pattern for fingering.
