Be Sweet Bamboo is a beautiful bamboo yarn with a stunning sheen. The yarn is hand-dyed, which creates vibrant colors with some slight variations. It is very soft, and would make a great camisole with an openwork pattern or lace scarf. Made in South Africa.

Note: The put up of this yarn has recently changed from balls to hanks.

I have used Be Sweet Bamboo yarns in the past, but in general, I find that the manufacturer places too many knots in a single ball of yarn. I usually have to cut these and start as if I was adding a new ball of yarn, knitting the ends into my pattern. When you're working with only a 50g ball, there shouldn't be 2-3 knots in a single ball. I also find the colours very inconsistent from ball to ball. I purchased 12 balls of silver and 1 was unusable, because it had very obvious blue streaks through it, when the other 11 didn't. I also think a bit more care can be placed into shipping these. Placing them in a zip lock bag can avoid them getting snagged while in transit to the customer, as 1/2 of mine did recently. On the plus side, the yarn knits beautifully and is super soft. Another plus is the WEBS customer service. They're very responsive and dealt with my concerns appropriately. I would definitely return to purchase again and if Be Sweet Bamboo gets a better handle on their quality control, perhaps even purchase this yarn again.

New twist hanks are a huge pain in the neck!

Pros

  • Nice Texture
  • Soft

Cons

  • twist hanks are a nightmare to untangle

Best Uses

    Comments about true Bamboo:

I've used Be Sweet Bamboo previously to knit the Infinity Scarf, which came out beautifully. Rich color, lovely soft texture. I ordered more of the yarn to do another scarf, but discovered that since my first order, the company changed the way the yarn is wound, and it's now in twist hanks that are a nightmare to de-tangle and use. I feel that I'm spending more time dealing with tangles than in actual knitting. Maybe there's a secret to dealing with the twist hanks; if so, I don't know it. Much as I've liked this yarn in the past, I won't buy it again, because of the twist hanks.

    Comments about true Bamboo:

I've knitted two tunics, using different colors. Thus yarn is soft, delightful to touch, and work with. Ive been machine washing the pieces--cold water, delicate cycle--, with no problems at all. I'll be buying more, for sure. Highly recommended.

    Comments about true Bamboo:

Be careful when you order the yarn. I was shocked how light the green arrived. It was more light/neon than what I expected. I wanted something more grass green.NOTE: Normally I love this yarn. Other colors would be perfect.

          Comments about true Bamboo:

I made a lacy hat from this yarn for a friend losing her hair from chemo. I'm not used to knitting with silky yarn or lacy patterns, so it took me a few tries. Working with bamboo needles worked better for me since it held the yarn a bit better. The yarn catches the light beautifully and has very slight varigations in color which I like. It is so soft and lightweight; perfect for summer. I'm planning some socks with it. I think it would also be great for a lightweight summer vest or shawl.

          Comments about true Bamboo:

This colour is a very deep rich dimensional colour. Rather than being a flat solid there is a very dimensional almost textured quality to the colour. It gives the finished project a very high end look. Each project made from this yarn is unique because of the multidimensionality of the colour! In addition to the fantastic colour this yarn knits up extremely well. It is soft and light. Exquisite yarn!!!!!!
