Soft and tweed don't usually go together in the same sentence, but thanks to the addition of super kid mohair and angora, Berroco Blackstone Tweed is a stunner. The gorgeous palette means beautiful finished garments in either one color or colorwork. Made in Italy.

I've made 2 sweaters from this line of yarn and they have both turned out beautifully: an intricate cable cardigan and a cropped tunic vest. Used needles size 5-7 which requires a longer time to complete garments but looks wonderful. Not for the knitter who wants to knit hastily on size 8 needles and above.

I purchased this yarn at a LYS in order to make a cardigan. The yarn was soft and despite the price I bought it. The yarn does not have an even texture and is quite thin in places. It is a bit thin for a worsted weight, the number of stitches per inch were spot on but the height of the rows came out short. The yarn has a lot of mohair & angora (35% total) which I believe may compromise the integrity of the yarn's strength. The yarn will break with the slightest of tension. I don't recommend for use with a pattern with cables. You can't pull the stitches tight enough to prevent gapping holes without the yarn breaking. I think this yarn is best suited for small projects, but definitely not a sweater.

    Comments about 5.49 Blackstone Tweed:

Chose this to make fingerless gloves for a friend. Color was great. It pretty much goes with a lot. Since I am not familiar with how much yardage items take, I go by the instructions and I find I am coming up short. I then have to re-order many of the items I have purchased from Webs. I was concerned with matching dye lots since I have read a lot about how they all don't match after you purchase on skein and need another a few weeks or months later. Webs has been extremely helpful. On this particular item I was told that Berroco Tweeds are very consistent so I ordered another skein. Webs was very correct and there isn't any difference from my one skein purchased in the beginning of January to the one I just received at the beginning of February. In fact, I needed to connect the two since I was at the end of my first skein and you would never know, even from a beginner like myself. Even though this tweed seems light, it is very warm. Great for cold CA morning walks or hikes. Yes, it does get cold in CA in the winter.

    Comments about 5.49 Blackstone Tweed:

I ordered this from this store because I like tweed and it was on sale. I like it as it is soft, and I like tweed. It does not rub my fingers (I have psoriasis and knitting can cause it to emerge on my hands), so I love using it. I like the slight halo the angora provides, and even though it is worsted gauge, it is not overly heavy in a large garment. I like the old style flecked tweed much better than the4 newer twist.

    Make the berroco mums bedspread

        Comments about 5.49 Blackstone Tweed:

I am so enthusiastic about this yarn with this pattern that I felt I should comment again since it is on sale. I made the mums bedspread pattern using the color wild rose and loved it so much that I bought more in the seaside color to make another as a gift. I realize that the website photos make these colors look a little garish, but they are perfect for an open, lacey flower shaped bedspread. In fact, any color more subtle might lose the pattern. (Since mine will be laid on top of a white coverlet, the bright flower is displayed to it's best.) Don't be afraid of this pattern. It looks harder than it is. You have to pay close attention for the first few inches until the pattern is set, but after that, the pattern is obvious and you won't need to keep looking at the pattern anymore. I consider myself to be an average knitter, nothing special. This is one of those rare patterns where the finished product makes you look like a better knitter than you actually are. I have tried this pattern with other yarns, but nothing works as well as the Blackstone tweed. It needs something marled and tweedy and a little wild to make it come alive. I plan to stock up while it is on sale so that I can make it again.

        Comments about 5.49 Blackstone Tweed:

This yarn is an old friend. Ive knit button cowls for a number of friends in a variety of colors and always told myself I would try the red someday. Then it went on sale and I took that as a message. Blackstone Tweed is easy to knit and warm and nice once it is made into a scarf or cowl. I love it.

I am using this to make the berroco mums round afghan pattern. What a surprise! It is much more soft and drapey than I expected. The vibrant color works well with the lacey pattern. The pattern suggests using this particular yarn, but I swatched a lot of different types of yarn before I settled on the suggested yarn. It really does work best with oversized open lace pattern. A more stiff or structured yarn kills the design.

I do not like the texture of this yarn. It is not soft at all, though it feels 'cushy' on the ball. I swatched up a sample and there is no 'cushiness' at all. I bought this yarn for a coat, so hopefully it will work for that since it won't be against my skin. I love the cranberry color though, just wish it was softer.

Soft, unusual for a tweed yarn. Good stitch definition.

Since this yarn has great stitch definition, it works well for arans and other textured patterns. Great color range. Can break easily if gentle hand not used. End product is warm and cosy, just what you want for fall and winter clothing and accessories. Garments do not feel heavy, just luxuriously warm.
