This yarn was suggested for the Chevron Baby Blanket pattern by Purl Soho. At first I was hesitant to purchase such expensive yarn that is advertised as hand-wash, but considering a baby blanket becomes an heirloom and sometimes a photo prop, I decided it was worth the splurge. I am so happy I took the leap of faith! The organic cotton is perfect for baby items and this yarn is incredibly soft. The cats always love my knitting projects, but I literally couldn't get my cat to stop using this yarn as her pillow as I knitted. I couldn't stop petting the blanket as I transitioned from color to color. The yarn is tight as cotton often is, but I did not have the problem other knitters mentioned with wrist pain. I did consciously adapt my knitting to be a bit looser to help counteract the pressure from the cotton yarn. It blocked beautifully using the steam blocking method and the colors are incredible. The first blanket I made used Azul, Lemonade, Drift, Stone and Jasper. I have already ordered more yarn for a baby girl's blanket - Raspberry, Pink Parfait, Drift, Dandelion and Sleet.

While the colors are gorgeous and the yarn is soft, I found this yarn to be very difficult to work with as it has no stretch whatsoever. Perhaps part of the problem was I used too small a needle size, but I went with what gave me the correct gauge, which in retrospect was a huge mistake. But I was using a pattern that called for this yarn and I've never really had a problem with my gauge being off. I had to use so much pressure to knit with this yarn that my fingers and hands became sore - I totally understand the previous reviewer who said that she has two broken wrists. In the process of fighting with the yarn, it frequently split, especially on the crocheted border. Plus, one of the skeins had frayed yarn in two places. Finally, the manufacturer recommends dry cleaning!

Comments about Blue Sky Alpacas Worsted Cotton:

Ordered this to knit the Caledonia cowl, which was a very fun, quick knit. Loved holding this yarn - so soft! Also, I didn't notice the issue I've had when knitting with cotton before - the lack of give in the yarn. While this wasn't stretchy per se, it wasn't a problem. This may also be due to the simple garter stitch pattern.

I'm making a baby blanket for my granddaughter. I think any baby would love the soft texture of this yarn. The only downside for her parents is that it will need to be carefully washed and laid flat to dry.

Comments about Blue Sky Alpacas Worsted Cotton:

This is probably the best yarn I have ever purchased, simply because it is the softest. It's the perfect yarn to make a gift for a baby, the baby nor the mother will complain of scratchy yarn. It does shed a little but that is to be expected with any yarn of quality, it's organic cotton.

Comments about Blue Sky Alpacas Worsted Cotton:

I made 2 baby blankets with this yarn. I combined the soft pastels that I found ideal for baby projects. Both blankets were rec'd with great enthusiasm and are favorite blankets. The project knit up quickly and the colors blended and complimented each other. The blanket is heavy and although it is washable it has to be dried flat which might take a long time given the weight of the finished product. It also pills just a bit but only noticable to the trained eye.
I recommend this yarn for any baby project.
