Comments about   " Classic Elite Avalanche - River - Closeout:

I wanted to update my initial review. I'm about to finish my third sweater in Avalanche and have enough for another sweater. I still love the yarn. It's warm and lightweight. Sweaters feel more like fabric than knitted. I don't know how well the yarn will hold up over time. I've been able to use the handwash cycle on my machine, cold water to wash these sweaters. I air dry them and they dry quickly. I would not use this yarn for pattern work. It would be obscured. I made sweaters that are very basic out of mine and the colorwork of the yarn is interesting enough.

I've used three different colorways. If I'd paid full price for the yarn, I would have been upset. Most of the skeins are fine. I've had several that had multiple knots/thin spots, usually about four in a bad skein. I can live with that in a discounted yarn. I would recommend the yarn with that caveat. Also, one colorway was much "woolier" than the others. I can feel the alpaca in the other two, but that one feels different. If you are curious about the yarn, start small with enough for a hat or cap. It doesn't really drape so not a good choice for a scarf, but might work for a cowl. I used size 10 needles for my sweaters. I think you'll expand your knitting knowledge if you give it at try.

Very nice stuff

This is really beautiful and has a wonderful, subtle color shift. It does have an odd stretchy/springy quality. The binder thread is very elastic. You have to be careful not to knit too tight. However, the end product is really beautiful. I was also afraid it might pill. Made a hat and have been wearing it daily. Looks like the day I made it! No pilling yet. I just bought some more to made a poncho. Very lightweight and warm.

This is interesting stuff. It's a chainette yarn. I can't tell if the wool and alpaca fibers are blown in. The nylon makes it stretchy. Garments made from it feel more like fabric. There's no drape. I used it for Church mouse's Better Than Basic Pullover. Its warm and lightweight. There are subtle color shifts so basic stockinette looks interesting.

Stretchy yarn made winding/knittin a nightmare

Since this comes in hanks, be prepared to hand turn your swift, otherwise you will be stretcing this rubbery yarn out of shape. I was so turned off by its rubber bandy-iness, I donated it to a fiber arts center, perhaps a weaver can figure out how to use it. Should've returned it. Bought it at retail with the discount. Ouch.

Soft and fluffy

Comments about   " Classic Elite Avalanche - River - Closeout:

I was looking for a less expensive alternative for berroco north star and happened upon this yarn. It worked out well for the scarf pattern I was using, even though it was not quite the same weight. The colors are lovely. I am always looking for yarns and patterns I can recommend to friends who are beginners and this yarn would be top of my list for someone who has the basics down and now wants to stretch out a bit. It is easy to work with and the finished product looks fabulous even with a super easy pattern.
