Crochet Granny Star Holiday Decoration - Fall 2024

Everyone needs a cute gift that they can work up in different colors and textures as we head into the holiday season. This Granny Star fits the bill. Double sided with a contrasting cloth center and beaded edging, this ornament has enough substance to it to avoid the typical “droopy crochet” decorations without needing fabric stiffener. This will help you hone your crochet fabric shaping skills. If you’ve never crocheted with beads before, this is a low impact intro to this technique. Once you start making these you’ll want to try one in every color in your stash!

For the comfort and safety of our students and teachers, students may be asked to wear a mask during in person classes and workshops, and masks are available upon request.

Prerequisite: For best results, students should have completed Crochet I, and be able to work chain, single crochet, half double, and double crochet stitches with confidence and be able to read and count their own stitches.
Materials Required:

We will make the small star pattern in class. Approximately 100 yards of DK weight cotton (mercerized preferred) in 3 colors. Sample used Universal Yarns Fibra Natura Radiant Cotton. Tahki Cotton Classic and Sidar Happy Cotton would be

good choices. Crochet hooks size 3.5, 3 and 2.5 mm (or size needed to obtain gauge)

For the insert:

2 3x 3 inch squares of fabric, sparkly and/or contrasting with yarn used for star

(5 3⁄8 inch craft ribbon works well) Pellon 808 iron on craft fuse (or similar product)

HOMEWORK:

If students have not crocheted in a while, please be sure to practice chains, single, and double crochet.
