*This class fulfills the Crochet I Requirement for WEKP.
Today’s crochet is not just about Kleenex box covers and granny squares. With all the wonderful and exciting new yarns and the fabulous new books and patterns, crochet has something to offer to everyone...even you knitters, spinners, and weavers out there! Not only is crochet fun to learn and faster than knitting, it is very hot in the fashion industry right now. With four basic stitches you can make an infinite variety of projects in a short period of time. In this class you will learn not only the basic crochet stitches and edgings, but you will also learn about gauge, yarn weights and correlating hooks, crochet tools, and how to read basic crochet directions. Crochet is invaluable as an embellishment for knitted or woven projects, so come and join us to see what crochet can do for you!
You will receive the Zoom link 1-2 business days before the virtual class.
Prerequisite:
Materials Required:
Prior to the 1st class please
purchase 1 ball of Valley Yarns Northampton. Prior to the 2nd class please
purchase 5 hanks of Tahki Yarns Cotton Classic in 4 colors (we recommend
purchasing 2 hanks in the main color you wish to work in, and 1 hank each in
the remaining 3 colors). You may consult the instructor for guidance in Class
1. Students are encouraged to choose colors that coordinate with their kitchen,
as our projects are kitchen accessories. Do not choose black, very dark colors,
or white, please. These colors make it very difficult for students to read
their work while learning new stitches. Yarn should be wound and ready to work
from in the first class. If you need help with this, watch How to Wind Yarn
with a Yarn Swift and Ball Winder (https://youtu.be/FrqNiAbTq2E)./ You may need
crochet hooks in sizes F, G, H, and I (you may not use them at all, but if you
are a tight or loose crocheter, you may need to go up or down a size). /
