*This class fulfills the Requirement for WEKP.
You’ve learned the basics of crochet and now, you’re hooked. You’re ready for what’s next, but not quite sure what that is. You’ve looked at some potential projects but aren’t quite sure what some of the instructions mean, much less if the pattern is suitable for your skill level. In Crochet II we will build on the skills you learned in Crochet I or what you’ve learned on your own with three projects that explore different techniques in crochet. We’ll start by learning the classic crocheted motif: the granny square. We’ll incorporate those squares into a hat where we will learn how to shape a crocheted object and make ribbing. With the sand stitch mitt pattern we’ll explore working a simple stitch pattern and making something to a specific size. The scarf pattern introduces a more complex stitch pattern and additional techniques for shaping in crochet. All three projects will include guidance on selecting suitable yarn and hooks, adjusting stitch sizes (a.k.a gauge), and finishing techniques for these and your future projects. Along the way, we will concentrate on reading a crochet pattern with the intent of actually making the object as the pattern describes. We’ll learn to read and work with crochet charts and abbreviations. As a group we will critique and discuss patterns to see if they are feasible to make. The goal is to help you choose your next crochet projects with confidence!
For the comfort and safety of our students and teachers, students may be asked to wear a mask during in person classes and workshops, and masks are available upon request.
