I have been using this yarn for more than 18 years and have never found another yarn that retains its shape & sponginess as well. It handles machine washing better than sheets & towels! And the full color range allows you to knit those great multi-colored patterns that Dale of Norway is known for.

Dale's Baby Ull has been my favorite moderate-priced merino fingering weight yarn for about two decades. I had one skein left of heather gray that I had purchased several years ago - not enough for the pair of socks I wanted to knit. I ordered two skeins of the same color and knitted the socks, but I was so disappointed to find that the yarn quality had deteriorated so much. The current yarn is much thinner than previous Baby Ull was, and the twist tends to split. The socks are nowhere near as nice as countless pairs knit from Baby Ull were. I would not recommend this yarn to anyone. What was a marvelous value for the price has become simply cheap.

      Comments about 8.20 Baby Ull:

It's my first time using this yarn, for a sock project. It's a slightly fine fingering weight, with a smooth texture and great stitch definition--and it's very soft. I would use this again.

I am using this yarn to make some baby hats and booties for sale. Loaded up on the white as the colors I wanted aren't available. I already did some dying, this yarn takes the dye very well, knits up beautifully. Good quality, good value.

I was searching for a fingering/sock weight yarn that would hold up to a child's fingers, be washable and soft to make little knit stuffed animals with. It's perfect!

This is a nice yarn with a good hand and consistent, reliable quality. It does split easily however and I would recommend using metal needles with a fine tapered point to deal with he tendency to split. I knit identical baby sweaters for my twin grandsons. The first I used bamboo needles and was very frustrated by the tendency to split. The second I ordered new addi turbos and solved the splitting issue. It was a much more enjoyable knitting experience. The yarn knits into a very smooth and even fabric and has excellent stitch definition.
