Comments about 7.29 Gems Worsted Overstock Colors:

If it is scratchy, wash gently...use hair conditioner....1 tablesp for a hat, etc. let it soak a minute or so. Rinse gently....and lay to dry.

      This reduces the itchiness.

Comments about 7.29 Gems Worsted Overstock Colors:

First time using the Louet Gems worsted weight, but have used both sport and fingering in the past. I love the smoothness of the merino. After a good soak, the yarn relaxes beautifully into a a very nice, dense fabric. I haven't machine washed, and probably never will. I do use the dryer though, both for a few minutes at the beginning and sometimes for a few minutes at the end for a little fluffing.

          Not what I expected

Comments about 7.29 Gems Worsted Overstock Colors:

I'll be returning this, as not only is it not a worsted weight, but the colors are very different from what I expected (I know it's difficult to read colors correctly on different devices). I had ordered as a gift for my daughter-in-law for Christmas, and I had to go out and buy a replacement at the last minute.

Comments about 7.29 Gems Worsted Overstock Colors:

Louet Gems is my favorite yarn by far, especially for kids project: very soft, washable, dryable and hold its shape and look very well after many washes. The only drawback I could notice of worsted yarn - if I use a hook thinner than 6 mm it splits a little bit. Other than that - very reliable yarn.

I've been knitting over fifty years and I've used many types of yarn, but this yarn in worsted or in sport weight has to be one of my favorites. Beautiful stitch definition, vibrant colors (I'm using cobalt blue right now), soft and springy. I get 5 stitches to the inch using size 7 needles.

Stunning for herky lace throws and wraps

          By

Comments about 7.29 Gems Worsted Overstock Colors:

I became a Louet GEMS worsted evangelist thanks to receiving a gift of five skeins in a beautiful Pacific sea green, probably now discontinued.

I was trying to learn a new-for-me 36-row lace pattern and figured the much-celebrated stitch definition of GEMS would help me get a handle on the structure, then would frog out smoothly. What the heck, give it a swatch.

Holy cats! The color and sheen were magnificent, the extra twist indeed made the stitches pop and gave structure to the holes/YOs, and the resulting fabric was an amazing combination of herky and delicate. The yarn felt great in the hand and worked up quickly. I had no problem with splitting, possibly because I work with pointy needles on all lace projects, regardless of the yarn weight.

I ended up working a larger swatch, which led me to work up all five skeins into a long rectangular shawl that doubles as an amazing throw that sits there glowing on the back of a wingback chair. I don't knit for comments, but this piece constantly gets them.

As soon as I finished it, I had another GEMS worsted project on the needles. Then having mastered the lace stitch, went back and started another project in lace yarn.

Comments about 7.29 Gems Worsted Overstock Colors:

I decided to leave a comment looking on the previous one. So far Louet Gems is my favorite yarn, especially for kids projects. This yarn is spun very well (maybe it is the reason it seems like DK in the hank but end up as worsted in a project). First it looked like cotton for me too but felt really like soft merino in a project. I made a baby set this year for my baby granddaughter (on the picture) and it was just perfect: soft to baby skin, machine washable, dryable and hold its shape very well. I started crochet the blanket with 5.5 mm hook and yarn was splity and I thought I wouldn't be able to end it. Then I changed the hook to 6.5mm and the yarn magically stopped being splitty and it was worked up very quickly.
I just want everybody to love this yarn!

Comments about 7.29 Gems Worsted Overstock Colors:

I used Louet Gems Worsted to make crocheted fingerless mittens, which turned out very nicely.

However, the yarn was very irritating to use because of constant splits. Also, the violet was a dull shade, not at all like the photo, and the Sunset was orangy-pink, not light red like the photo. Worst of all, the yarn is DK, not worsted. And it felt like cotton, not springy like Merino wool.

            Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was prompt, and the yarn was well packaged.
