This is a follow-up to my review to add images. Finished projects and I am still loving this yarn. Used size 10 needles (byrspun straight & addi circular). The variation in color saturation is noticeable in each hank, so would not recommend for project where this matters (thought it added "character" to my scarves). Cowl is Lepidoptra adn Scarf is graphite (color much darker than show in product detail)

This yarn is tightly spun and doesn't split. The colors are all they are hyped to be--glowing with a depth not often seen, the small variations making a fabric that holds the attention. The yarn has a sure, easy feel during the working. I could have, and sometimes did, work in the dark. I agree with other reviewers about the weight: it seems more like heavy worsted than chunky. In fact, WEBS lists it in their heavy worsted section also.

I would have given 5 stars, but took one off because one hank had cut places in it. That's the stuff of cheapo, dollar a pound yarn, not premier wool of this price. I had the aggravation of several unplanned splices in mid-row.

I sawed off another star because--also noted in another review--it has a chemical smell, probably from the dye. I wonder if other Colorway yarns have this same odor. I expect it to leave after a wash or two, but to smell it during the stiching is, well, one shouldn't have to.

The yarn was for a self-designed smoking jacket done in Harris Tweed stitch on no. 9 bamboo needles, with letters rf and back. The knit-on bands and collar, and the sash are in seed stitch. I used Tart for MC, and Whiskey Barrel for CC. Overall, I'm pleased with the result and would, with the two chancy caveats above, recommend this brand. But it seems more like a specialty product, best suited for certain types of projects than for general purpose.

Tosh is always the perfect choice.

Comments about true Tosh Chunky:

I wish I could afford to use a Tosh yarn for every project I do. I've used fingering, pashmina, and now their chunky, and the touch of the yarn when you are working with it is always amazing. I haven't yet finished this chunky project, but I'm equally happy with the results so far.

Comments about true Tosh Chunky:

I never buy Chunkier Bulky yarn and hardly ever use it, partly because I don't like using a needle size larger than a 7. But I made a sweater using this on a size 10 needle and loved it. I expected the product to be bulky and it isn't. The fabric drops just enough and has a light sheen.

Disappointed with color

By Tosh lover

from Ohio

Comments about true Tosh Chunky:

I just received my Astrid Grey Chunky yarn. It is not silver, but rather a pale purple. I'm really disappointed in the color because I was anticipating a true grey, from which I planned to knit a hat for my father. Purple, however pale, is not going to cut it for him. Also it appears to be more worsted weight than chunky. I've knit with Tosh yarn before and loved it, but this one is going back to Webs. My local store closed and I just HATE to buy online; I would never have picked up this color if I'd seen it in person.

Comments about true Tosh Chunky:

Used this yarn for a cardigan pattern called positive thoughts. Terrific yarn. Fast knitting, but not too bulky. Soft, great drape for an adult sized cardigan. Used the colorway composition book gray, which had a slight dark purplish/eggplant cast. Really nice color, just a little different than anticipated. All five skeins purchased were very close in color. Fabric reads solid enough to still show cable work. This yarn is so nice I am on the hunt for another sweater pattern to use again.

Cons

    Comments about true Tosh Chunky:

The Madelinetosh yarns are my favorite yarns for wool sensitive people. I make hats that I sell and give as gifts and find myself going to Tosh yarns more often than any other yarns. It doesn't pill. It feels wonderful to knit. It washes beautifully. The way this yarn is dyed seems to be on the surface, leaving a white core. Which means if you snag the yarn, you're going to get a lighter color in that spot. A rare occurance: knots in the skein. I'm always irritated if this happens but it doesn't happen often with Tosh yarns. (I won't buy yarn from companies who make it a practice.)

      Comments about true Tosh Chunky:

I made a slouch hat which needed 1.5 skeins alternating the two balls of yarn every other row to get a consistent look with the variation in dye lot. One skein had more shine, the other was quite dull.
The turned out beautiful and so soft. Had just enough yarn left to make a pair of finger-less mitts (80 yards)

          Comments about true Tosh Chunky:

I bought two skeins to make hats for me and my man. The hats begin with ribbing for the cuff and then change to broken rib for the body. This yarn has such a fantastic feel, and the slight color variation looks fantastic in ribbed work. It's not enough to make it variegated, but it adds a lot of interest while keeping a solid color tone. The hats are soft and very warm, and this is not my go-to for bulky weight wool. The only thing I could see being a negative is the small color variations, and the green I bought has bits of red-brown in the variation - which I LOVE since it isn't overwhelming at all, but I could see how other people might not like it.
