A super bulky celebration of color, Plymouth Grandiosa Hand Dyed is four thick plies of merino wool with a little alpaca for softness. It's a big, squishy yarn that will make the warmest garments and accessories in fabulous variegated shades. Plus, since Grandiosa Hand Dyed is 75% wool, this yarn felts, too! Made in Peru

I bought this yarn to make a afghan. The Merino wool and Alpaca will make it a warm gift. I'm using # 15 needles so it knits ups quickly. The strands don't separate and the stitches are well defined.

My daughter-in-law selected this yarn for me to make an afghan for her living room, as the colors were perfect. I'm knitting a loose open-worked pattern and am finding two troublesome aspects of the yarn: (1) the afghan is not as soft as I expected; and (2) the yarn sheds all over my lap as I knit. I'll show the partially finished afghan to my daughter-in-law but I may have to abandon the project, because I doubt that she'll want it shedding all over her living room sofa. I'm upset because I spent over $200 buying non-returnable yarn on a close-out.

Comments about "" Grandiosa Hand Dyed:

The color shifts were a bit abrupt, and the colors generally were a bit more muted than I expected. The twist from the plying is more obvious than I expected as well. It's fine, but I wouldn't choose it again, personally.

    Don't bother

Comments about "" Grandiosa Hand Dyed:

I bought this to knit a very simple hat. Ran out of yarn with 2" left to go. Am covered with fuzz and despite its alpaca-wool combo this feels like cheap acrylic. Skip this and buy something better.

Very nicely dyed in both colors I got. Difficult to crochet with even though I'm using a very large hook. Frays a bit but warm.

Colors pictured are dusty and desaturated, when in reality are vibrant and bright. Texture and thickness is good but ultimately I'm disappointed with the color.
