I, the German sock yarn addict, find myself interestingly mixed on this yarn. At first I thought it wasn't up to the quality of the usual Regia sock yarns. The twist felt funny. Or something.

Couldn't put my finger on it till getting well into an entrelac-in-the-round shawl in two colors (anthracite and grey) of the 6-ply Regia Tweed (not this product, but very similar; two more plys).

Then I realized what felt different: guard hairs. Lots n lots of guard hairs!

Not a bad thing, since they are very soft staple, quite appropriate for a "fisherman's heather" type yarn. It's just that I am wired to expect all Regia yarns to have that dense, puffy, smooth quality. I find even nice guard hairs to be kinda...messy and imprecise. I'm on the precise-quant-data-and-engineering side of the spectrum, and I like my sockenwolle to have the smoother, slightly springier finish.

The 4-ply Tweed (this product) struck me similarly. Like the 6-ply it produces exquisitely soft stitches with lovely definition and springiness, subtle coloring, and a gorgeous hand. I have no doubt that it will wash and wear well.

I couldn't bring myself to give this yarn four stars on the basis of personal taste on the matter of guard hairs. :D It really is lovely.

The shade of blue that I ordered was as I was expecting from the picture. But the brown in the picture appears to be a much lighter shade of brown than what it is in reality. It's really a very dark brown. I don't like it but will keep it - it would cost more than the yarn to return it.

      Comments about 8.95 4-Ply Tweed:

I knitted a pair of socks of Regia Tweed, and they came out superbly. I've been a fan of Regia/Schachenmayr's sock yarn for decades since the yarn is not only soft but rugged and washes supremely well in the washing machine. I wash my socks on regular setting, cold and air-dry them. Even with repeated wear, there's no pilling, no felting, and the socks look like new. Regia Tweed is no different and also meets these specs, just as expected. Couldn't be happier.

        Comments about 8.95 4-Ply Tweed:

Have used this yarn several times to make socks for men. It is understated for those who don't like flashy socks. It knits up nicely, and as all Regia yarns do, wears well. A good "workhorse" yarn. When knitting it up, it appears that it would be kind of rough and scratchy, but softens up beautifully after the first washing. Will buy again - - wish they had more colors.

                  Comments about 8.95 4-Ply Tweed:

Started a pair of socks with lots of texture, but discovered the yarn speaks just fine for itself; doesn't need to be gussied up to be effective; so my socks are called "Just Tweed" and they receive lots of compliments for their simple approach to life, using broad ribs after keeping a bit of texture at the cuff. Ordered more yarn and will challenge it this time with some lace and cable ribs.
Yarn has just the right amount of colorful "dots" to bring a bit of liveliness to the base color -- not too few as to be unnoticeable, but not so many they're a distracting jumble.

This yarn is a very dark brown and the tweedy bits are hardly noticeable. Based on the photo online I thought it was a more chocolatey color and that there were bright multicolored tweed bits. I'm sorry I purchased it.
