Tis the season of the ‘cozy’ knit, the ‘wrap up against the elements’ knit, sweaters that ‘cocoon’ the body. Key accessories are large wrap scarves, leg warmers and chunky socks.

Extremes are seen in knit design from the neat and elegant to the grungy and worn out. Different scales of fair isle, motifs, stripes and checks are used together to create the ‘untraditional fairisle’.

This is represented in Rowan Knitting & Crochet Magazine 52 in our three stories:
Hebridean – historic Fair isle knitting
North Sea – British heritage fisherman knits
Essentials – key shapes and textures of the season

The Rowan yarns used in Issue 52 include: Kid Classic, Colourspun, Felted Tweed DK, Rowan Tweed, Rowan Fine Tweed, Wool Cotton, Kidsilk Haze, Pure Wool DK, British Sheep Breeds Bouclé, Felted Tweed Aran, Pure Wool Aran, Cocoon, Lima, Creative Focus Worsted, Alpaca Cotton, Drift, Big Wool, Alpaca Chunky, and Kidsilk Haze Stripe.

Comments about Hebridean – historic Fair isle knitting Knitting and Crochet Magazine 52:

Too often knitting books have one, or at most three 'good' patterns. Rowan #52 is loaded with beautiful designs with varying degrees of difficulty and a broad range of styles. I'll be starting with 'Orkney' and continuing with at least six other styles. I LOVE this book!
