Practical and hard wearing yarn. Rowan Original Denim is a 100% pure cotton and carries all the same characteristics as jeans denim - it will fade as it's washed, and will last a lifetime! This unique yarn gives a wonderful firm fabric making it perfect for cabling, shaped jackets and sweaters. Note that this yarn shrinks in length after its initial washing.

This yarn is available online only. Local customers can choose the In-Store Pickup option when placing their order online.

I bought 4 balls of Rowan Denim #225 after hearing good things about it on Eunny Jang's blog. When I started Knitty's cabled Shedir hat pattern with it, I was amazed at how durable this yarn is! At first, it feels a bit funny in your hands (and it turned my bamboo needles a little blue), but once your project is done you just stick it in the wash, and voila! A soft, stretchy, comfy knit piece comes out. FYI - I purposely put the finished hat through the ringer--hot wash and sturdy dry--to mimic Eunny's fading detail on the ridges of the cables, and it came out better than I thought it would. Even the shrinking detail disclosed on the label came out perfectly. I'd recommend this yarn to anyone looking for a comfy but sturdy washable fabric.

I ordered Rowan denim 229 for cardigan. Didn't have enough so place another order for same project not same dye lot so was expecting slightly different colour but not what I got...my second order of rowan denim 229 came in with completely different quality of yarn. Bad quality went from at least 10 twisted shinny smooth rich blue in first purchase to 5strands of yucky too much white in it poor twist not dark blue at all yarn. The fact that the quality differed to such an extent i had to frog my cardigan and probably will never buy this yarn again online only on a store where I could actually see what I was buying. Very disappointed.

    Comments about true Original Denim:

A lot of knitters might be disturbed by the fact that the color comes off on your hands. And then it's difficult to wash off. But I like the yarn itself and it's perfect for my project.

    Comments about true Original Denim:

This yarn does crock while you are working with it, so it's a good idea to use an old towel on your lap to protect your clothes, and it shrinks dramatically in length, so you will need to adapt any pattern that isn't designed with this yarn in mind. But you will have a deathless classic that you will wear for 20 years. People still stop me on the street to compliment me on the sweater I knit in 1990, the first time this yarn was released, and I was thrilled to see that it was back. With washing, it acquires a wonderful fading and terrific integrity.

            Comments about true Original Denim:

This yarn knits up very evenly, there is very little give, it looks great in simple stockinette. It does turn your hands blue (washes right off) and the roughness is causing my fingers to peel some...but once the shawl is washed, it should be incredibly soft. And the shawl will continue to fade, like blue jeans, at each wash! I will most probably make something else with this cool yarn.

The yarn is fine but the color is completly different than pictured. I thought I was getting a dark blue jean and this is a light baby blue. I kept the yarn but was disappointed in the color.

I was looking forward to this yarn. Was only 4-6 rows into a small sample and my fingertips were stained with blue dye. Unfortunate/unhealthy. Otherwise, the yarn had a lovely feel.
