the cadillac of silk-mohair yarns

Comments about SHIBUI KNITS Silk Cloud:

I just love this yarn, which is a mixed blessing as it's simply ruined me for any other mohair out there. kid silk haze? nope - it's like sandpaper compared to silk cloud.

it's just luscious. As others have pointed out, it can be hard to work with on its own, as it's so very thin and slippery. In this case I just expect the project will take a little longer. Paired with a lace or fingering weight yarn, it's much easier to work with, though the special sheen of this yarn can be diminished if you use it with something more matte. I really, really love to pair this with malabrigo silkpaca - magical results, beautiful sheen, and so so so soft! I dare you to try it :)

One of the best, but not for sissies

      Best Uses

      • shawls, scarves, just holding a skein!

Comments about SHIBUI KNITS Silk Cloud:

This is my second shawl that I will be knitting with this yarn. I knit the same shawl with the bordeaux color thinking my old eyes might not be up to doing the shawl in the Abyss color way. But before my eyes fully go , I wanted to reknit the lovely Myrtle leaf shawl and use black. This yarn was not easy to use the first time...if you blow on the yarn it floats up like a speck of dust, but it has a fabulous hand and now that I regularly wear my bordeaux shawl...in spite of it's weight it is toasty warm. It is so luxurious! So now, I am starting the shawl again with more experience and with the loveliest of yarns ....this yarn knocks every project out of the park! So the biggest downside to this yarn is the colors are so gorgeous and elegant, it is a hard choice to make overtime you use it! Don't take my word for it, try a skein, place it against your neck and be ready to fall in love!

      Service and delivery comments:

The black yarn was out of stock...and I settled in to wait for a while, but boom, next thing I knew it was on it's way. I love this website....one of the best for yarn!

I love this yarn and have stranded it with other yarns such as silk and wool blends and Shibui Pebble to make a hat. I have yarn to make an entire sweater with Silk Cloud and Pebble, but have not yet begun it.

I combined this with a hand-dyed fingering yarn and worked them on size 11 needles for a beautifully open and airy scarf. I haven't knitted for resale in a long time, but with 3 requests so far, I think I'm back in business. :-)
