*This class fulfills the Stitches: Color Requirement for WEKP.
In this class we will explore four techniques for adding color to your knitting, including Fair Isle, Armenian Knitting, Slip Stitch, and Intarsia. During each meeting we will delve into a technique and begin knitting a sample. Stitches: Color is an exploratory class that will inspire you to delve further into these colorwork techniques. Required Text: Knitting With Two Colors by Meg Swansen and Amy Detjen
For the comfort and safety of our students and teachers, students may be asked to wear a mask during in person classes and workshops, and masks are available upon request.
Format: In-Person
Prerequisite: Knitting
II, or equivalent
Materials Required:
8 different color skeins of
worsted weight yarn (suggested yarns are Valley Yarns Northampton or Cascade
220) / Class samples were made using the following colors: Light blue, Green,
Red, Yellow, White, Brown, Pink, and Orange; However, please choose any color
combination you like. / Needles: Have a range of sizes from US 5 -- US 8
16-inch circular needles to get gauge of 4.5-5 sts/inch. Make sure the cable
that joins the needles is flexible. Tight cables that coil up are difficult to
work with. Knitter's Pride and Addi Turbo needles are fixed needles that have a
flexible cable. Two of the projects are worked back and forth, for which you
may choose to use straight needles; you can work back and forth on the circular
needles listed above. For one of the later projects you will need either a set
of double pointed needles in the same size as the 16-inch circular listed
above, or a second circular needle in the same size (but not necessarily the
same length). / Size E or F crochet hook / Recommended text: Knitting in Two
