I bought this to knit an Aran style sweater for my son. I knitted an Alice Starmore pattern, and I absolutely loved the way that this yarn held the cables. Given that this was the first project of this scope that I have done, there was, needless to say, some frogging that occurred. This disturbed the yarn not at all. The finished product has a nice snugly weight, and is soft enough to be worn against bare skin. I am in love. It will knit into an heirloom item, and it will make almost any knitted item a work of art. When knitted, it is almost as soft as cashmere.

I just finished a cardigan with this yarn. I love the yarn and color and I am sad that the dye bleeds so much. My project used the marine color and charcoal color and both contain indigo in their dye formulas. My hands turned VERY blue. There is a disclaimer on the label saying that everything was done to minimize the bleeding indigo issue and that you can just wash your hands in soap and water... This should not happen in such an extreme way with a high quality yarn like this. I am afraid that it will rub off on my clothes or the back of my neck might turn blue when I wear my beautiful new sweater. My hands had turned blue from just knitting the gauge swatch so I soaked all of my skeins in a vinegar and cold water bath before knitting, but I still had a lot of color bleeding while knitting.

I love the yarn and color so much that I finished my sweater anyway and I will see what happens when I wear it. I imagine that colors that do not contain indigo dye will not have this problem.

I really hope that Swan Island will figure out what they need to do to eliminate or at least greatly reduce this bleeding issue on the beautiful blue colors. I would use this yarn again and again if it didn't bleed.

I knitted a herringbone pattern scarf for my son and he loved it. The yarn is soft and the herringbone pattern made it thick just right for Chicago weather.

        Comments about SWANS ISLAND Worsted:

I like Swans Island yarns because I have allergies and their yarn is made here in USA. Some other yarns especially imported yarn; have caused the skin on my fingers to crack and bleed which I finally realized was due to the chemical dyes in manufactured yarns. When I use Swans Island yarns the skin on my hands never gets red or crack or bleed like they do with yarn from foreign countries. I believe we should support USA yarn mfr to support our economy. Plus you get a good natural product which helps our environment by not using any chemicals.

            Comments about SWANS ISLAND Worsted:

This yarn is wonderful to work with, but it bleeds tremendously. After knitting on an airplane my hands left blue fingerprints all over the seat tray. It's not just hands, but the arm of the couch I usually sit in. I've been knitting with a towel over the arm and my lap. Directions say after completing the excess dye will rinse out. I certainly hope so! If it does, I will be glad I chose this yarn for the sweatshirt sweater I am knitting it for.

Too expensive for what you get. Bought the Mulled Cider color way for a gift sweater. Coat so I spent over $200. Swifting/winding left black dust all over table. My hands were black every time I worked on it. Put it through 8 washes before sewing up, first 4 the water was so black I couldn't see my hands in the sink. The color significantly less deep now. Extremely disappointed.

I knew when I got this yarn that it was hand dyed and that it needed to be washed before wearing. It washed up beautifully and most of the residual dye was removed. It is such a beautiful color I would buy it again.
