Yarn is a black nylon core with little puffs of alpaca sort of blown in and caught. It sheds when knitted but the fibers are long enough so that I do not think it will pill after knitted. The recommended needle for this yarn, #7, is 5 sts per inch for me. I always have to go up a size of needle to get .75 sts more. I think it looks best at 4.5 to 5 sts per inch - that's a #7-8 needle for me and produces a nice, drapey fabric with a squishy hand. I would not make a sweater with the recommended gauge of 4 sts per inch. This produces a very sleazy fabric because a little more than half the yarn is alpaca puff halo. It may be great for scarves but not sweaters, at 4 sts per inch. The colors are really beautiful and organic. There is a heathered effect, a mottled effect that produces a very organic-looking fuzzy fabric. I think reverse stockinette looks better than stockinette due to the mini pooling that occurs.

Surprisingly quick to knit and each skein holds a lot of yardage.

Comments about 6.49 Kismet:

I knitted a scarf with wine kismet and planned matching hat. Wine was also very dark. See photo.
Was disappointed in the mustard kismet...color didn't match that shown on web. Was planning to knit a scarf with it to match oo2 Flirt...but the 2 yarns don't match at all.
Yarn was soft and hung well, but colors were not to my liking...too dark for me.

I love this yarn

Comments about 6.49 Kismet:

I often use this yarn as weft for scarves on my rigid heddle loom. It is perfect as a complement to a fancy novelty yarn. It is soft and lightweight, but has some bulk to it so I can use a very open beat without the fabric being sleazy. The result is a very light and drapeable scarf.

Pros

  • Great wool but very thin for making sweaters

Cons

  • Pattern sent by daughter using Kismet. Very hard

    Comments about 6.49 Kismet:

Perhaps it is just my age, but the dark blue Kismet is extremely hard to see to knit. I bought a lighter color and will try to gauge it, but so far the size 7 needle suggested gives me a 3 inch square. #8 gives a 3 1/2 inch and Now I am trying a #9. Which if it measures 4 inches will make a very very loose knit for the sweater pattern suggested. Just to thin for me.
