This yarn is beautiful. It is natural and undyed and it also offers a natural barn scent as well. This smell is not strong. I found it great because it brought me back to my childhood inside my grandparents barn. It knit up fast and beautifully. Everyone that I shown my throw to loves it! Would use it again.

Maybe I'm spoiled as a beginner who has only knitted merino wool and alpaca/wool combo twice before, but the charcoal wool is a little coarse. In comparison to the other super bulky yarns I've used it also seems a bit thin, I would think it's more a bulky weight. Maybe as a more natural product line there will be some variation there.

  • Nice Texture
  • Soft

Cons

Comments about Tahki Yarns Montana:

After finishing my item, I applied a graphic using a yarn needle (see photo). I was dismayed that the yarn separated and broke easily while stitching. I've never tried this before, so I don't know if the yarn was faulty or the application was inappropriate.

Used this yarn to knit a huge wrap. Very quick and easy to knit. Love the undyed, natural colors. This is the second time I have bought this yarn, and planning on buying more

This will be the third Long Cardigan from Vogue Magazine
Early Fall 2010 that I'm making. My friend saw mine and had to have one. The natural colors are gorgeous! The yarn still has a lovely smell, has some debris, but no big deal to pull out. It is roving, not twisted or plied, so need a little extra care to knit. Eunny Jang's tips for casting on & knitting with roving are great; recommend the Knitting Daily episodes.

I am making a cute little winter vest and I love how smooth and buttery this yarn is. I got cream and thus far, as people see me knit, I've gotten a lot of complement s. Let's just hope the finished project does justice to the beauty of the yarn!

            Comments about Tahki Yarns Montana:

Order all you need at one time because the thickness of the roving differs from batch to batch. My first batch was great: thick, rich, extremely thick. However the next batch I ordered was much thinner roving. The thicker is making a great rug however the "thinner" batch is making a great throw.

Knit very quickly and well. It is, however, a very natural product which means there are still random bits of straw and other things mixed in with the thick single ply. Still, it's nice and soft and I'd absolutely use it again!
