Arranmore from The Fibre Co. is a luxurious, authentic tweed in a blend of fine Merino wool, cashmere and silk. Inspired by the stunning scenery of Ireland's Northern Headlands, Arranmore is spun in an Irish mill that traces its roots to the homespun tweed industry of the 19th century County Donegal. This heavy worsted or aran weight yarn comes in a gorgeous, rich palette of colors that are reminiscent of the wild Irish coastlands.

I am a brand new knitter (though crochet extensively) and am using this yarn and I love it!! I did not purchase it from Webs, but rather my LYS, and am writing this review for the main purpose of addressing Webs noting the yarn as bulky weight. I don't think so, more like Aran. In the product product description it's described as heavy worsted. I think Webs should change the weight to Worsted or Aran in the thumbnail description of this yarn so that a more informed decision to buy or not buy can be made by the customer. Again, this yarn is super nice, exactly what one would expect from Fibre Company. The price is steep but you get a Top Quality Product.

I was so looking forward to making a celtic lap blanket with this yarn as a surprise gift for a friend...and I must say the stitch definition is nice thus far as I am cabling, nice 3D effect, but it feels rough. This may in part be do to I have been crochets for 6 months now with silk, merino wool, even cashmere blends...but still I am disappointed in the rough texture. Maybe a tweed is supposed to be like that?! Hopefully once complete a good soaking in a mile fabric softener will loosen the fibers. Any suggestions out there?

Comments about THE FIBRE CO. Arranmore:

I bought Arranmore, in the Cronin color. I haven't used it yet (it will become a sweater), but it feels wonderful and looks beautiful - it warms my heart! And Yarn.com was very understanding of my ordering samples to make my choice, and returning the ones I didn't choose. They're great!

For similar patterns I would select a different yarn.

Comments about THE FIBRE CO. Arranmore:

I like the coloration...used it for a cowl and cap with many cables. I don't especially like knitting with it because it feels like cotton.

Comments about THE FIBRE CO. Arranmore:

I chose the Arranmore Tweed yarn to make a sweater for my husband. It's a beautiful feel and easy to knit. Webs had a great color and number (skein) selection, and it took 2 days to get here. I'm extremely pleased and will certainly be shopping WEBS again.

Comments about THE FIBRE CO. Arranmore:

I bought this yarn at a yarn shop that only had 4skein for a project I thought would only take that. Half way through I realized I would not have enough! No problem, I can always count on Webs. I got my additional skein. Webs saved the day for me.

The yarn itself is lovely. A lovely feel both as one is knitting and the stitch definition is great. I am knitting guernsey patters which show up perfectly.

A great yarn. Waited awhile to afford but is worth it. I hear Fibre Co is coming out with lite version. Hopefully Webs will carry it as well.
