These placemats are a great way to use up odds and ends of coned cotton yarns that have been cluttering your shelves. The warp and one of the two wefts is 5/2 Valley Cotton in two contrasting colors. There are two wefts: the first is one of the two warp colors; the second, heavy weft is multiple ends of a variety of colors and weights of cotton yarns, both mercerized and unmercerized, in sizes from 5/2 to 10/2. This is a great way to use up yarns left from previous projects.

Heavy yarn - Odds and ends: wind at least 10 ends and up to 20 ends of leftover cotton yarns in sizes from 5/2 to 10/2, mercerized or not, together. Blend mostly colors you like that seem to combine well, but don’t hesitate to include a few colors you don’t like and want to get rid of!
Light yarn - Use one of the colors you used in the warp as your alternate tabby pick.
