The Anatomy of Knitting We will go in depth into the anatomy of a stitch and stitch orientation on the needles. We’re not just knitting – we are creating fabric. Even a piece of simple stockinette stitch is a piece of fabric. So is seed stitch, cables, and ribs. But these simple designs don’t look like they’ve come off a loom. What makes fabric from a loom appear different than a fabric created on knitting needles is that two yarns are being used together on a loom – one horizontal and one vertical. We will learn how to create this effect with knitting. How? By knitting out of order, knitting through other stitches, working stitches more than once, knitting and purling into the rows below, and slipping stitches – all in combination. Swatching is not a dirty word. Most knitters don’t like swatching because they want to jump right into their projects. But our projects this weekend aren’t scarves or throws. They’re fabrics that can be turned into scarves or throws. And getting just the right fabric for you requires trying different yarns and different needle sizes. Swatching allows you to see a fabric evolve. You will learn to create something that you love – that is uniquely yours. Our First Woven Stitches – Slipping stitches to create Linen and Double Linen Even if you already are familiar with these first stitches, you’ll be amazed watching your fabric change and evolve as you vary the needle size and yarn choices.
You will receive the Zoom link 1-2 business days before the virtual class.
