I made knitted shawls, cowls and scarves, on needles sized 5-9, for a somewhat loose to very loose, lacey effect. All were beautiful, but it was especially gorgeous when knitted up on the smaller needles, because the richness of the yarn was more apparent. This yarn has a very soft hand and is a treat to work with. The finished fabric is luxurious and elegant, and could be used with evening wear or to elevate casual wear. The variegation of the dyeing makes it shimmery, not striped, and not nubby. I was concerned when I rec'd the yarn and saw that there were areas of very deep color and a few, but distinct, areas of yarn that seemed nearly colorless. I was afraid of having unattractive light stripes in the finished products, but the lengths of color are fairly short, so I had no striping and the lighter areas of the yarn gave a lovely shimmer and blended in beautifully without standing out. The fine gauge of the yarn and soft hand and drape makes lovely open work, but cables don't particularly stand out. There is some variation in the thickness of the yarn, which provides nice life to open patterns, but someone wanting a very uniform surface for flat knitting or cables may want to consider a more uniform yarn. The colors in Blue Hawaii are very much like those in deep tropical water: indescribably beautiful blues and greens, without being too much of either. This is great yarn, and I so enjoyed handling it that it was sad to put it away when the article was finished.

I used this to knit a shawl and was in love until I hit my first knot. This yarn cannot be properly spliced due to the nature of the spin and only two ply. After that frustration, I hit a knot just a couple yards later, so I had unknit and cut out that whole chunk putting me back to square one. At this price I think it is unreasonable. Contacting the company, I was informed that the industry allows for four knots, so I should consider myself lucky.

I used this for shawls and loved the look. Color can vary quite a bit so I changed balls every so often to even out color. Worked well for shawls. Will definitely buy more in other colors.

        Comments about true Serenity 20:

This is probably my favorite yarn. It works up beautifully with good stitch definition, and is extremely soft. It doesn't pool into weird patterns like a lot of hand painted yarns do. My only negative is that it is difficult to find a coordinating color. They have started putting coordinating colors on their tags, but I have found that I don't like their choices. I have to go to other brands to find something I like for my two tone projects.

The Exclusive Webs Colors are simply gorgeous! It makes me want to find the perfect pattern to accentuate the rich tones. However, it hard to resist just diving into any project with this. I have made a two-color pullover using Serenity 20 combined with Valley Yarns Charlemont. The texture of Charlemont was a perfect pairing. I highly recommend using Charlemont if you want a solid to work with the Serenity 20!

        Comments about true Serenity 20:

I used this yarn to make socks using a pattern I created for Koigu. It seems very nice and is super soft. Not one knot. I used two colors and had no trouble splicing the second color into the first. The colors are gorgeous!

One caveat: while the two skeins I ordered in the same color are consistent with one another, other colors are notably different from the photos shown on the website. The "roses" color has green in it, for example. I do not mind the colors I received at all, but they are not what I expected.

I don't know yet how the yarn will hold up through washing etc., but I have to say that after avoiding sock yarns with nylon for twenty years, this one might make me a convert.
