Retail Store Manager

We’re looking for an experienced, motivated, and independent Retail Store Manager to join our team of Smart, Kind, Makers! 

WEBS - America’s Yarn Store is a true destination for yarn crafters with the biggest range of any local yarn store in the United States. Based in Northampton, Massachusetts, our Store Manager is responsible for the day to day smooth operation of the WEBS Retail store. This role ensures that excellent customer service is always the top priority and fosters a creative, collaborative environment that reflects the LoveCrafts/WEBS culture and vision for both customers and staff. Our Store manager also understands how to drive revenue, whether through merchandising, staffing, or systems/process improvement.

This role reports to the Store Director.

What You’ll Do…

  • Be a strong leader, managing and motivating the entire store team
  • Actively drive revenue and ensure that sales goals are met
  • Manage the store merchandising process for events, seasons, and promotions
  • Understand the store budgets and the levers that can be pulled to meet them
  • Implement staffing and scheduling plans to ensure appropriate coverage at all times
  • Work with HR to manage the interview and selection process
  • Train and develop all floor staff
  • Be familiar with the inventory systems at the store level and assist when needed
  • Execute plans for promotions and sales drivers
  • Support the Weaving Program Goals
  • Education and Events preparation and support
  • Take initiative for process management and improvements
  • Act as the point person for all in store customer service needs
  • Model and train excellent customer service practices for all store staff
  • Directly manage our retail floor staff (team of 9), as well as our Sales Floor Supervisor and Inventory Receiving Coordinator
  • Stand on feet for extended periods, and occasionally need to lift no more than 40 pounds

Who you are

  • You have experience as a leader in a retail store environment, with a strong track record of people and/or process management 
  • You’re an experienced knitter or fiber artist
  • You’re a strong operator with excellent retail fundamentals and a “customer first” service approach
  • You’re flexible with an “all hands on deck” mentality, self-motivated, and require little managerial direction
  • You understand the nature of retail and that you must be available for special events and/or unforeseen circumstances
  • You’re a natural relationship builder and enjoy mentoring & coaching others
  • You bring creative and simple solutions to different problems that might arise, and you’re resilient through times of change, challenge or ambiguity
  • You will have a confident, bright personality and superb communication skills – we’re a dynamic working environment and you’ll need to be able to create and maintain great relationships across the business to get things done
  • You are a self-starter who promotes action and is able to prioritize well in a fast-paced environment with changing demands.
  • You will have an eye for detail and high standards when it comes to your work 
  • Excellent knowledge of POS and Inventory Management Systems and familiarity with Google-suite, remote collaboration tools (Slack, Zoom etc.) - you’re a quick learner of new systems
  • You’ve earned a High School Diploma or equivalent
