Berroco Maya

Berroco Maya is a silky-soft blend of pima cotton and alpaca in a chainette construction. This worsted weight yarn is surprisingly light and airy, and gives great stitch definition. You'll love Maya's touchable softness for warm weather accessories and garments. Made in Peru.

It kind of looks like it was spun with cat hair because of the angora. I didn't notice it while I was converting the first skein to a ball, but it was very noticeable once I started knitting and I blamed my Siamese cat. By the 2nd skein, I realized it wasnt his fault.

I recommend using circular needles, even if you are knitting flat pieces, because it is quite slippery and if you are knitting and travelling, it's likely to slip off the needles.

I am knitting the Berocco Panamint shell in Isla Del Sol colour, which is about 2x darker than pictured.

I am working on a top down tee. The yarn feels good, but I am having trouble keeping a consistent gauge. I keep moving up a one needle size since I started the knitting, even though I did made a good swatch before I started. I am not sure this would work for cables, since I am not seeing much definition. Since it is a chainette, it is a good idea to knot the tip of the working strand so it does not ravel with handling.. I think it will be very soft and comfortable to wear. I think this yarn might make great camisoles for wear under winter weight garments also.

      Comments about Berroco Maya:

I have a lovely pattern for a sweater and didn't know what kind of yarn I wanted to use to make it.
I was with a friend and she was using Maya yarn in this wonderful shade of light purple. (#5650) And without either of us knowing it was making the sweater I was planning on making!!! I found it on line and purchased it. I have found that I really love the color and texture of the yarn. I am disappointed that I found little pulls in the yarn as I opened it. And, although I am carefull while knitting, I do fine it will pull every once and a while. With that said....it is a wonderfully solf sweater and I can't wait to finish it and wear it! It is pulling because of the kind of yarn it is and I have never used anything like it before. Because of the little pulls I almost returned it....I am glad I didn't.!

      Wonderful!

      Comments about Berroco Maya:

I used Maya to knit a shrug. This is the first time I've ever knitted a project to completion (almost done -- just have to put the seams in) is a short period of time. The yarn was easy to use because when I mistakenly purled instead of knitting - the stitches were easy to backtrack and correct without any snarls.

Looking forward to finding another project to use this yarn again!

      Service and delivery comments:

As always shipping was fast and service was wonderful. I appreciate it when the packaging is waterproof since sometimes the package is outside for 6-8 hours before I can get it.

Very soft, like the definition. Making a summer top. Splits easily and unravels quickly if you don't knot the ends
