*This class fulfills the Non-Knitting Elective / Wild Card Elective Requirement for WEKP.

You may have done a clasped WEFT project before, but this new technique is blowing up social media! Come to class to see how to set up your loom for this fascinating application and learn just how to use two separate superwash wools for your warp on your loom, which requires different set up, handling and tension than other yarns. Hemstitching for both left and right handed students will also be taught in this class, so no more making knots on your fringe!

This class is designed for advanced beginners who are comfortable threading their own looms and have successfully made at least three woven projects independently.

For the comfort and safety of our students and teachers, students may be asked to wear a mask during in person classes and workshops, and masks are available upon request.

Format: In-Person

Prerequisite: Intro to Rigid Heddle Weaving

Materials Required:

Rigid heddle loom 15” or wider with one 10 dent reed, loom stand or loom clamps, threading hook, one stick shuttle 9” or longer, scissors, craft paper approximately 13” x 70” (may be in 2 pieces) OR two brown paper bags with the bottoms cut off before class, tapestry needle, one pick up stick 12” or longer (or an additional stick shuttle), two sturdy rubber bands, pencil, tape measure, two empty paper towel tubes, note taking materials.

Yarn:

Warp: Two contrasting colors of sock yarn (Superwash), 50 grams each. Valley Yarns Huntington or Huntington Splash are perfect. Other fingering weight yarn may be substituted, hand or machine wash, please avoid one ply or loosely plyed yarn.

Weft: One 50 gram skein of lace weight yarn such as Valley Yarns Hatfield (yes, hand wash is fine.) All skeins should be wound into cakes or balls BEFORE class.

This is an all day class, so please bring your lunch.

When possible, please buy your materials from WEBS.

Cancellation Policy: For all classes, payment of full tuition is due at time of registration. Tuition will be refunded only if the class is cancelled by WEBS, or if there is a waiting list and your spot can be filled.
