Product Description
Deramores Entrelac Rainbow Blanket
What Is Being Made
The Deramores Entrelac Rainbow Blanket is a large circular knitted throw measuring approximately 155 centimeters in diameter. This intermediate-level knitting project features a vibrant rainbow color palette created through the entrelac knitting technique, making it an eye-catching decorative piece suitable for blankets and throws.
Entrelac Technique
Entrelac is an advanced knitting method that creates a woven, interlocking block pattern. Rather than working in traditional rows or rounds, entrelac involves knitting small rectangular or triangular sections that are worked at angles to one another, then grafted or picked up to create a distinctive three-dimensional lattice effect. The Deramores Entrelac Rainbow Blanket is worked clockwise around the blanket, beginning with triangular sections. This technique produces a fabric with excellent drape and visual interest, though it requires careful attention to stitch pickup and directional changes.
Stitches and Abbreviations Used
- K – Knit stitch, the fundamental stitch creating the fabric base
- P – Purl stitch, used in combination with knit stitches
- Kfb – Knit into front and back of the same stitch to increase one stitch
- S1p – Slip one stitch purlwise for edge management
- Tbl – Through back loops, a variation affecting stitch orientation
- Yfwd – Yarn forward, creating decorative yarn overs
- Stocking stitch – The primary stitch pattern worked over 4mm needles with a measured tension of 22 stitches and 28 rows per 10 centimeter square
Materials Required
Yarn: The pattern uses Deramores Studio DK yarn in sixteen distinct colors totaling 1,700 grams. The color palette includes Wine (Yarn A), Fuchsia (Yarn B), Peony (Yarn C), Heather (Yarn D), Aubergine (Yarn E), Purple (Yarn F), Ultramarine (Yarn G), Lapis (Yarn H), Malachite (Yarn J), Fir (Yarn K), Lime (Yarn L), Mustard (Yarn M), Burnt Orange (Yarn N), Raspberry (Yarn P), Ruby (Yarn Q, 200 grams), and Cranberry (Yarn R, 200 grams). Note that yarn colors are labeled with letters skipping I and O to avoid confusion with numerals.
Needles: The project requires a set of four 4mm double-pointed needles (DPNs) for working smaller sections, a 4mm circular needle measuring 80 centimeters in length, and a 4mm circular needle measuring 150 centimeters in length for managing the expanding blanket diameter. A stitch marker is also recommended to track position during the circular construction.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate knitting, appropriate for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle more complex construction methods. The entrelac technique requires understanding of directional knitting, stitch pickup, and color changes, making it suitable for experienced beginners or intermediate-level crafters seeking to expand their technical repertoire.
