What is Being Made

The Deramores Festive Blanket is a beginner-friendly knitted throw blanket designed by Sarah Murray. This finished blanket measures 70cm in width and 100cm in length, making it an ideal size for a cozy throw or lap blanket. The design features a festive color palette combining three distinct yarn colors to create a cheerful, seasonal aesthetic suitable for holiday décor or gifting.

Techniques Used

This knitting pattern employs fundamental techniques appropriate for beginner knitters. The blanket construction involves working with chart patterns in stocking stitch, requiring knitters to read charts across right-side and wrong-side rows. A key technique featured in this design is the separate working of garter stitch edgings from the stocking stitch main body. This separation is intentional and necessary because the two stitch types have different tensions; working them simultaneously would prevent the blanket from lying flat. The edgings are worked independently and then sewn to the main body upon completion. Color changes are incorporated throughout the pattern, with yarn ends woven in on the wrong side of the work as you knit to minimize finishing work.

The yarn requirements are: 5 x 100g balls of Frost (Yarn A), 3 x 100g balls of Fir (Yarn B), and 2 x 100g balls of Ruby (Yarn C), providing a total of 1000g of yarn for the complete project. The pattern is worked on a pair of 6mm knitting needles using the thumb cast-on method to begin. Additional tools required include stitch holders for managing stitches during construction.
