What is Being Made

The Klee Throw is a large decorative blanket designed by Georgia Farrell. This finished throw measures 105 cm (41¼ inches) wide and 150 cm (59 inches) long, excluding the i-cord trim. The throw is an advanced-level knitting project suitable for experienced crafters seeking a substantial and visually striking home accessory.

Craft and Technique

This project is created using the knitting craft. The primary technique employed throughout the throw is intarsia, a color-work method that involves joining and breaking off different colored yarns as required to create a detailed pattern from a chart. Intarsia allows for the creation of large blocks of color and intricate designs without carrying yarn across the back of the work, making it ideal for multi-colored throws with complex imagery.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The entire throw is worked in stockinette stitch (st st), beginning with a knit row. Stockinette stitch creates a smooth, classic fabric with a flat appearance on the right side. The pattern is worked from a detailed chart over 420 rows, allowing crafters to follow the color placement precisely. Additionally, an i-cord trim is added around the outer edge of the completed throw. Materials: Yarn and Needles

Tension and Finished Dimensions

The pattern is worked to a tension of 20 stitches and 28 rows to 10 cm measured over stockinette stitch using 4mm (US 6) needles. Achieving the correct tension is essential for obtaining the finished dimensions of 105 cm wide by 150 cm long (excluding trim).

Construction and Finishing

The throw begins with casting on 210 stitches using yarn A (Gooseberry). All 420 rows are worked from the intarsia chart, ending with the right side facing. After completing the chart, stitches are cast off using yarn A. The fabric is then pressed according to standard finishing instructions. The i-cord trim is worked separately on double-pointed needles and sewn neatly around the entire outer edge of the throw, with cast-on and cast-off edges of the trim joined at a corner for a seamless finish.
