Product Description

20 Squares to Celebrate America’s Yarn Store Designed and Knit by WEBS Staff

The 40th Anniversary Knit Blanket eBook from Valley Yarns is a collection of 20 afghan squares designed, written, and knit by the wonderful employees here at WEBS! We chose 4 colors of Valley Yarns Northampton to work with, required a 12” square, and gave everyone a theme of “What’s The Best Thing You’ve Made?” We wanted to show off how WEBS has enabled each of us to do our best work.  Then we brought all the squares together with a ruby red color in honor of the ruby anniversary.

It’s been so amazing working with all the talented people who work here at WEBS. From all levels of experience, each square is a unique representation of the role of knitting and crocheting in our lives, and it’s stunning to see them all together.

In this ebook, the patterns for each square are given in the order they’re assembled, not necessarily in order of skill level, so we encourage the knitter to read through the book and work the squares in the order they most prefer. Since tension varies from knitter to knitter, we provided the needle size each designer used to make their square, making it even more essential to check the gauge on every square to ensure they’re all the right size. Whether you work all the squares as written or add a few of your own, we’re so proud to have you join us in celebrating the anniversary of America’s yarn store with your own creations to cherish.

Valley Yarns 40th Anniversary Knit Blanket

Project Overview

The Valley Yarns 40th Anniversary Knit Blanket is a modular blanket project composed of 20 individual knit squares designed to celebrate America's Yarn Store. This downloadable PDF eBook features patterns created and knitted by WEBS staff members, each square representing a unique interpretation of the theme "What's The Best Thing You've Made?" The finished blanket showcases the creative diversity and skill levels of the WEBS team while demonstrating the community spirit that defines the company's 40-year history.

Design and Assembly

Each of the 20 squares measures 12 inches and was independently designed and written by the employee who knit it. To maintain visual cohesion across the modular design, all squares were created using four coordinating colors from Valley Yarns Northampton yarn. The completed squares are then seamed together using a ruby red yarn, chosen to honor the ruby anniversary milestone. This assembly method creates a unified blanket from 20 distinct individual patterns, allowing crafters to experience multiple design approaches within a single project.

Knitting Techniques and Stitches

The blanket squares incorporate a variety of knitting techniques to showcase different skill levels and creative approaches:

  • Cable knitting — textured techniques that create dimensional twisted stitches throughout selected squares
  • Lace knitting — openwork patterns featuring yarn overs and decreases for delicate, airy sections
  • Stripes — color work created by alternating yarn colors across rows for visual interest
  • Seamed construction — individual squares are knit flat and then joined together using seaming techniques to create the final blanket
  • Flat knitting — all squares are worked flat on needles rather than in the round, allowing for traditional row-by-row construction

Materials and Yarn

The project utilizes Valley Yarns Northampton in four coordinating colorways for the individual squares. A ruby red yarn from the same line is used for seaming the squares together. The specific needle size and yardage requirements are provided within the eBook pattern instructions for each individual square.

Pattern Format and Organization

This eBook provides all 20 square patterns in the order they are assembled in the final blanket, rather than organized by skill level. Knitters are encouraged to read through the entire book and select squares to work in their preferred order, allowing flexibility in how the project is approached. Each pattern includes its own design notes and instructions written by the original designer.
