Valley Yarns Catasticta Collection Ebook

The Valley Yarns Catasticta Collection Ebook is a comprehensive knitting resource featuring five distinct pullover designs. This digital pattern collection showcases versatile garment construction techniques and sophisticated stitch work suitable for intermediate-level knitters seeking to expand their skillset.

#1077 Cloudywing

What is Being Made: The Cloudywing is a short-sleeved, top-down pullover with a scoop neckline, designed by Julie Turjoman. This body-skimming garment features a low-hip length and is available in sizes XS through 5XL, with finished bust measurements ranging from 34½" to 64". The pullover is worked in one piece with minimal finishing required.

Techniques Used: The Cloudywing employs several advanced knitting techniques including top-down construction worked in the round from the scoop neck to the hem. The pattern incorporates increase-shaped yoke shaping, short-row shaping on the back yoke to lift the back neck for improved fit, and waist shaping for a flattering silhouette. Sleeve openings are divided from the yoke, and short sleeves are picked up and worked downward in the round from the yoke.

Stitches Used: The primary stitch throughout the lower body is stockinette stitch. A lace stitch pattern adorns the yoke, adding visual interest and depth to the garment's upper portion. The design features ribbed hems that complement the "knit through the back loop" texture found at the base of the lace yoke motif, creating a cohesive design detail.

Materials: The Cloudywing requires 8 to 17 skeins of Valley Yarns Goshen (depending on size), a yarn blend composed of 48% Peruvian Cotton, 46% Modal, and 6% Silk, with each skein weighing 50 grams and yielding 92 yards. Needles required include US 7 (4.5mm) 16" and 32"-40" circular needles and double-pointed needles for the larger gauge, along with US 5 (3.75mm) 16" circular needle and double-pointed needles for ribbing. Additional materials include stitch markers and a tapestry needle. The pattern calls for a gauge of 20 stitches and 28 rounds over 4 inches in stockinette stitch when blocked using the larger needle.

Fit and Design Notes: The Cloudywing is designed to fit with 2" to 4" positive ease, offering a comfortable, body-skimming fit that flatters most figures. The soft hand and wonderful stitch definition of Valley Yarns Goshen make this short-sleeved pullover exceptionally pleasant to wear. The breezy lace yoke provides a feminine detail while maintaining breathability, ideal for warm-weather wear.
