What Is Being Made

The Agnetha Hat & Cowl is a two-piece set from The Nordic Collection, designed by Claudia Wersing. This intermediate-level knitting project produces a coordinating hat and cowl that can be worn together or separately. The hat is sized to fit head circumferences of 18 (19½, 21¼) inches (46, 50, 54 centimeters) with a finished length of 10¼ inches (26 centimeters). The cowl measures 9½ inches (24 centimeters) wide and 20½ inches (52 centimeters) in length, making it a generous neck wrap suitable for layering or draping.

Techniques Used

This project employs several key knitting techniques appropriate for intermediate crafters. The hat construction begins with a ribbed cuff worked flat in rows rather than in the round, followed by a textured bobble pattern section that adds visual interest and dimension. The pattern then transitions to stockinette stitch for the crown shaping. Decreases are worked evenly across the top of the hat to create the proper crown closure, with stitches placed strategically using markers to ensure symmetrical shaping. The bobble pattern, a signature decorative technique in this design, requires wrapping yarn around cable needle stitches to create three-dimensional texture.

Stitches Used

• Ribbing: Alternating knit and purl stitches (K1, P1) create an elastic, fitted cuff on the hat that stretches and recovers well.
