What is Being Made

Craft and Techniques

This is a knitting project worked primarily in stockinette stitch, the fundamental stitch pattern that creates a smooth, flat fabric with characteristic V-shaped columns on the right side. The pattern employs strategic shaping techniques including decreases at regular intervals to create fitted waist shaping and cast-on increases at armhole openings to accommodate sleeve caps or armhole depth. The construction method involves working separate pieces—front and back sections—which are later joined together, a standard flat-lay knitting approach that allows for precise shaping and measurement control.

Stitches Used

• Stockinette stitch (st st) — the primary stitch throughout the garment, created by alternating knit rows on the right side with purl rows on the wrong side
• Decreases — worked at each end of rows to shape the waistline and create fitted proportions
• Cast-on stitches — used to create the armhole shaping by adding stitches at the beginning of successive rows
• Cast-off (bind-off) — used to finish edges and secure stitches at completion

Materials and Tools
