Product Description
Incorporating old lace patterns into a design, especially border patterns, can be a fun exercise in updating classic themes. The shawlette and cowl in this pattern give the emphasis to the lace with a bit of sparkle from beads.
The lace for the shawlette is worked from side to side, then garter stitch added along the straight edge of the lace and short-rows used to give the piece a slight crescent shape. For the cowl, just work the lace border from end to end, then join the beginning and end to form a circular piece.
The shawlette measures 46" (117 cm) long by 9" (23 cm) wide. The cowl measures 37 1/2" (95.5 cm) circumference by 5" (12.5 cm) long.
Worked in a 100% baby alpaca yarn, if you choose to substitute another yarn for the one used, make sure to get one that is fairly smooth to make adding the beads easier. Choosing a yarn with at least 400 yards (366 m)/skein will make both pieces. Suitable substitutes include Malabrigo Silkpaca, Rowan Fine Lace, or Juniper Moon Farm Findley.
