The Personal, Portable, Hands Free Light

Beam N Read® lights up personal space anywhere. It's worn around the neck and provides hands free light for tasks like quilting, knitting, reading, camping, changing diapers, and for walking in dim or dark places. It works with all books and eReaders. With a wider and brighter light and longer battery runtime than clip on book lights, it also works with newspapers, loose documents, and a letter from mom. It's an excellent Kindle Reading Light. Easy portability is great for students. The extra bright light is helpful for seniors while the hands free design also makes it practical for those using walkers or wheelchairs. The extra long battery life makes Beam N Read a very useful emergency light during a power outage and results in a lower cost to operate. It's perfect as a travel light. It consistently receives excellent Product Reviews & User Comments. It's the only hands free LED light that supports clip on color filters for more relaxing light, AC, DC, & USB power adapters to save batteries, and large clip on magnifiers for detail work.

With poor overhead light, knitting a gray cabled sweaters complicated shaping has been a challenge. I've gotten further in the couple of weeks I've had the light than I have in the several months before. The light is invaluable to knitting in the evening and in any room in my house...I love it!

Difficult to aim the light where needed

Comments about 4 Standard alkaline AA batteries (not included) last 50 hours at full brightness using 6 LEDs, 100 hours using 3 LEDs Beam N Read LED Light:

The Beam n Read offers a choice of two light intensities which is a plus. I have not used either of the red and yellow lenses that came with the Beam n Read, so I cannot comment on their usefulness. I purchased the Beam n Read to use for illuminating knitting and crocheting under inadequate lighting conditions. I have had some difficulty getting the beam of light to center on where I am holding my work. The neck strap is adequately adjustable, but of course you can't do much moving about or the unit will swing on the strap. I expected that before I purchased the product. What I did not expect is the light beam aiming problem caused by the hinging mechanism. The LED on-off switch is built into the hinge between the power unit and the "reflector hood" (the light bar with the LED lights in it). Adjusting the hinge so that the light bar is in plane with the power unit (i.e. the hinge between the units is open at 180 degrees) turns the lights off. Bummer. The hinge between the units is not infinitely adjustable: You can only choose a 45 degree angle between the power unit and the light bar or a 90 degree angle. Neither is quite right for me when knitting or crocheting. Strangely, the product's printed Operating Instructions do not describe how to adjust the aim of the light beam other than describing how to lengthen or shorten the neck strap. So, here is a tip: I have achieved better aiming results when I hang the Beam n Read so that the hinge is away from my body, rather than against my body, and the upper edge of the light bar "reflector hood" is resting against my body. When you are using this position you can see the Beam n Read logo printed on the back of the power unit. Most people will probably intuitively hang the unit so that the power unit is flat against their body, and the outer product package actually depicts that position. I found Beam n Read better for reading than for knitting or crochet.

This is useful when there isn't enough lighting to knit or read by.
