Berroco Sarkis Knitted Bag

What Is Being Made

The Sarkis is a knitted handbag designed by the Berroco Design Team. This project creates a finished bag measuring approximately 24 inches wide by 12 inches high (not including handles). The bag features a structured rectangular shape with integrated handles, making it a practical and stylish accessory suitable for everyday use.

Techniques Used

The Sarkis bag is constructed using seamed construction and is worked flat on straight needles, which means the main body pieces are knitted in flat panels rather than in the round. The pattern involves picking up stitches along edges to create the handles, a common technique for adding functional elements to flat-worked garments. This method allows for precise shaping and professional finishing details.

Stitches Used

The primary stitch used throughout the Sarkis bag is stockinette stitch (St st), which creates a smooth, classic fabric with a flat appearance on the right side. Stockinette stitch is an ideal choice for bags as it produces a dense, durable fabric that holds its shape well and provides excellent stitch definition.
