Berroco North Star Knitting Patterns
About This Yarn
Berroco North Star is a bulky alpaca blend yarn composed of 92% Superfine Alpaca and 8% Nylon. Each ball contains 109 yards and weighs 1.75 ounces (50 grams). The yarn is dyed in a neutral color palette and is designed to work up quickly on large needles, making it ideal for creating lightweight yet cozy knitted pieces.
Yarn Properties and Care
This yarn produces a gauge of 3.75 stitches per inch when worked on appropriate needles. A 4-inch (10 cm) swatch measures 15 stitches by 22 rows. Berroco North Star requires handwashing and should be laid flat to dry to maintain its quality and shape.

Sheltered Poncho
Skill Level: Easy
The Sheltered design is a poncho-style garment with finished measurements of approximately 42 inches wide by 36 inches long when worn. This project requires 17 balls of Berroco North Star in colorway #3003 Grizzly.
Needles and Tools: The pattern calls for a 29-inch length circular knitting needle, size 11 (7.00 mm), as well as straight knitting needles, size 11 (7.00 mm), or whatever size is necessary to obtain proper gauge.
Construction Method: The Sheltered poncho is constructed in two separate front pieces. The right front is worked on straight needles by casting on 74 stitches and working even in the pattern stitch for 36 inches, ending on the wrong side. The left front is begun with the circular needle, also casting on 74 stitches. The pattern stitch is repeated over 24 rows, with rows 17 through 24 repeating rows 13 through 16 twice more to establish the pattern repeat.
Gauge Importance: Knitters are strongly encouraged to check their gauge before beginning, as proper gauge ensures the finished garment will meet the specified measurements.
Haven Design
Skill Level: Easy
The Haven is another easy-level design included in this pattern collection, also worked in Berroco North Star yarn.
