What is Being Made

Construction Techniques

This sweater is constructed using a bottom-up, seamless approach worked in the round, which creates a continuous tube of fabric without the need for seaming. The body is worked as one complete piece in the round up to the underarms, where it is then divided to accommodate the back and front sections separately. The shoulders are shaped using the short row technique, a method that creates gradual shaping without increasing or decreasing stitches in the traditional manner. This construction method minimizes finishing work and creates a smooth, professional appearance.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The Royston sweater incorporates two primary stitch patterns:

• Stockinette Stitch (St st): Used for the main body sections, this fundamental knit stitch creates a smooth, classic fabric with a distinctive V-pattern texture on the right side.
• Chevron Pattern: A decorative motif worked over a multiple of 10 stitches that creates a distinctive zigzag or wave-like visual effect. The pattern repeats every 2 rounds and is created using knit stitches combined with increases (M1L and M1R, which stand for make one left and make one right) and a centered double decrease (CDD). The sweater features 12 rounds of this chevron pattern as a design element.
