About Berroco Mercado Yarn

Berroco Mercado is a 100% Peruvian Highland Wool yarn offered in a 2-ply, aran-weight construction. Each hank contains 164 yards and weighs 100 grams, making it ideal for quick project completion. This classic yarn performs exceptionally well for cables and colorwork applications, providing versatility for both traditional and contemporary knitting designs. The yarn requires hand washing in cold water with flat drying to maintain its quality and appearance.

Needles and Gauge Requirements

The patterns call for size 10 (6.00 mm) needles, with adjustments permitted to achieve proper gauge. For the Short Cowl version, a 24-inch circular needle is recommended. The Long Cowl version utilizes straight needles or appropriate circular needles with stitch markers for pattern management. The target gauge is 20 stitches and 24 rows over 4 inches in charted patterns, achieved in stockinette or pattern stitch. Obtaining accurate gauge before beginning ensures proper fit and yarn yardage calculations.

Yarn Quantities

Yarn requirements vary by pattern version. The Short Cowl requires 2 hanks of Berroco Mercado in colorway #4133 Azul, while the Long Cowl version requires 4 hanks in colorway #4103 Playa, allowing knitters to choose based on desired finished length and visual preference.
