Product Description

Berroco Bezel is a lovely women’s set knit in Spree. The cardigan and camisole set have Spree do all the work with its self-striping ability. The cardigan is knit in reverse stockinette stitch in one piece from the bottom up to the underarms, then the sleeves are body are joined, and the yoke is worked in one piece. The camisole is knit in the round to the underarm then the front and back are worked separately to the shoulder. Spree by Berroco is a fabulous warm-weather yarn in a cotton and wool blend. The yarn uses an impressionistic spray-effect dye technique as the yarn showcases a lot of colors dappled throughout the ball.

Berroco Bezel Cardigan and Camisole Knitting Pattern

What Is Being Made

The Berroco Bezel is a versatile two-in-one knitting pattern designed by Amy Christoffers that includes both a cardigan and a camisole. The cardigan features a classic button-front closure with seven 5/8" buttons and is available in multiple sizes ranging from 33¾" to 65¾" bust measurement. The camisole offers a sleeveless alternative, also available in a comprehensive range of sizes from 33½" to 71" bust measurement. Both garments are designed with approximately 2–4" of positive ease for a comfortable, relaxed fit.

Techniques Used

This intermediate-level pattern employs several modern knitting construction methods to create a polished, professional finish. The garments are worked using a bottom-up construction, which allows knitters to try on pieces as they progress and easily adjust length as needed. The pattern utilizes both seamless knitting worked in the round for body sections and worked flat techniques for other components, combining the efficiency of circular knitting with the precision of flat construction. This hybrid approach minimizes seaming while maintaining shaping control throughout the project.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The primary stitch used in the Berroco Bezel is Reverse Stockinette Stitch, which creates a subtle, textured fabric with visual interest while remaining elegant and versatile. This stitch pattern is worked over the larger needles and produces the main fabric of both the cardigan and camisole. The gauge for Reverse Stockinette Stitch is 22 stitches and 33 rows per round over 4 inches (10 centimeters) on the larger needles after blocking, providing a fabric with good drape and structure suitable for a fitted garment.

Materials: Yarn, Needles, and Notions

The Berroco Bezel pattern calls for Berroco Spree, a yarn that comes in 50-gram balls. For the cardigan, yardage requirements range from 9 balls for the smallest size (33¾" bust) up to 17 balls for the largest size (65¾" bust). The camisole requires less yardage, ranging from 4 balls for the smallest size to 9 balls for the largest size. The pattern shown features Berroco Spree color #9409 Burst.

Needle requirements include 32-inch circular needles in sizes 3 (3.25 mm) and 5 (3.75 mm), allowing knitters to choose the appropriate size to achieve the specified gauge. Additionally, one set each of double-pointed needles in sizes 3 (3.25 mm) and 5 (3.75 mm) are needed for working smaller circumferences, such as necklines or armholes. Essential notions include stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and shaping, waste yarn for holding stitches during construction, and seven 5/8" buttons for the cardigan front closure.
