The Cala Saona is a knitted top designed by the Berroco Design Team. This intermediate-level garment is available in nine size options, ranging from 34½" to 70¼" bust measurements, with finished lengths between 21" and 24" depending on size. The design features a fitted silhouette with approximately 2–4 inches of positive ease recommended for comfortable wear.
This knit top employs several key construction techniques suitable for intermediate knitters. The garment is worked primarily in stockinette stitch and incorporates top-down seamless construction using circular needles. Shaping is achieved through strategic decreasing, including k2tog (knit two together) and SSK (slip, slip, knit) decreases worked on right-side rows to create fitted armholes and neckline shaping. The pattern utilizes stitch markers to track pattern sections and shaping points, and waste yarn is used to hold stitches during construction, allowing for seamless integration of garment pieces.
The Cala Saona is designed to be worked in Berroco Lumi, a yarn that comes in 50-gram balls. The project requires between 5 and 11 balls depending on size, with the sample shown in size 38¼" using Berroco Lumi in colorway #8121 Stormy Sea. Knitting needles include a 32-inch circular needle in size 5 (3.75 mm) and a 16-inch circular needle in size 4 (3.5 mm), allowing for seamless construction across different garment sections. The pattern calls for six stitch markers to track shaping points and waste yarn to temporarily hold stitches. The recommended gauge is 22 stitches and 30 rows over 4 inches in stockinette stitch, measured after blocking to ensure accurate finished measurements.
