Product Description

Berroco Coriander is a women’s pullover knit in the round from the bottom up. The body features a contrast color stripe, and a slipped-stitch pattern worked to the underarm. The sleeves are worked in the round to the underarms then the sleeve caps are worked back and forth in rows, and the set-in sleeves are sewn into place. Berroco Sesame is a colorful self-striping yarn with a subtle sheen. The fibers take the dye differently, producing a marbled effect. Worsted weight Sesame is machine-washable and an excellent choice for Coriander. The striping and slipped-stitch pattern is in chart form only.

Berroco Coriander Knit Sweater

What Is Being Made

The Berroco Coriander is an intermediate-level knit sweater designed by Amy Christoffers. This pullover garment features a seamless construction method and is available in nine different sizes, with finished bust measurements ranging from 35¼ inches to 62½ inches and lengths from 23¾ inches to 26 inches down the center back. The sweater is shown in the size 38½" and is designed with 2–4 inches of positive ease for a comfortable, relaxed fit.

Construction Technique

The Coriander sweater is constructed using a seamless, in-the-round knitting method. The body is worked as one continuous piece in the round up to the underarms, at which point the work is divided to create separate sections for the back and front. This approach minimizes seaming and creates a more polished finished garment. The shoulders are shaped using short-row shaping, a technique that adds dimension and improves fit by gradually wrapping and turning the yarn at strategic points to create angled shoulder lines without the bulk of traditional bind-offs.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The primary stitch used throughout the Coriander sweater is Stockinette Stitch (St st), which creates the classic smooth, V-shaped texture characteristic of knit fabrics. The gauge for this pattern is 20 stitches and 26 rows per 4 inches when worked on the larger needles in Stockinette Stitch. Short-row shaping is employed at the shoulders using the wrap-and-turn (w&t) method, a technique that involves wrapping yarn around stitches at turning points to prevent holes and create seamless shaping transitions.

Materials: Yarn and Needles

The Coriander sweater is designed to be knit with Berroco Sesame yarn. The main color (MC) is #7417 Lotus, with quantities ranging from 4 to 8 balls of 100 grams depending on the size being knitted. A contrasting color (CC) in #7411 Breeze is used as an accent, requiring just 1 ball regardless of size.

The needle requirements include:

  • One 29-inch circular needle in size 4 (3.50 mm) for ribbing and initial setup
  • One 29-inch circular needle in size 6 (4.00 mm) for the main body
  • One 16-inch circular needle in size 4 (3.50 mm) for neckline work
  • One complete set of double-pointed needles in size 4 (3.50 mm)
  • One complete set of double-pointed needles in size 6 (4.00 mm)

Additional notions required include two stitch markers in different colors to track pattern repeats and construction points, waste yarn for holding stitches temporarily, and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and finishing seams.

Skill Level and Gauge

This pattern is rated as Intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle more complex construction methods. Checking gauge is emphasized as essential for ensuring accurate finished measurements. Knitters should take time to create a gauge swatch, measuring 20 stitches and 26 rows over 4 inches in Stockinette Stitch on the larger needles before beginning the project.
