Product Description

Berroco Feki is a fresh and fun pullover accented with stripes eyelet lace on the front yoke and above the sleeve cuffs. Berroco Carousel is a sport weight blend of wool and acrylic that features multicolor self-striping colors perfect for punching up the impact of any project. Feki begins by knitting the front and back center panels and joining them the the shoulder with a three-needle bind-off. Stitches are picked up along the edges of these panels and worked out to form the sides and sleeves. Seams along the undersides of the sleeves and sides complete the body of the garment and hem and neckline trims are picked up and worked in the round to finish your pullover. For a sweater that can transition from day to date night with ease, Feki will fit the bill as a project that you'll reach for again and again. Eyelet pattern is written out only.

Berroco Feki Knit Sweater

What is Being Made

The Feki is an intermediate-level knit sweater designed by Åsa Buchta. This pullover garment features a classic construction with separate front and back panels that are joined at the shoulders using a three-needle bind-off technique. The sweater is available in nine size options, ranging from 36½ inches to 72 inches in bust measurement, with finished lengths between 20¾ and 23¼ inches. The design is shown in size 40 inches (101.5 cm) and is recommended with 2–4 inches of positive ease for a comfortable fit.

Knitting Techniques Used

The Feki employs several intermediate knitting techniques to create its finished structure:

  • Bottom-up construction: The sweater is knit from the bottom edge upward, allowing knitters to try on the garment as it progresses and adjust length as needed.
  • Worked flat and in the round: The pattern combines flat knitting for the main body panels with circular needle techniques for seamless sections.
  • Lace patterning: Decorative lace stitches are incorporated throughout the design, adding visual interest and texture to the finished garment.
  • Striped colorwork: The design features stripe patterns that create horizontal visual lines across the sweater.
  • Seamed construction: After individual panels are completed, they are joined together using seaming techniques, with shoulder seams finished using the three-needle bind-off method for a secure, professional finish.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The Feki uses stockinette stitch as the primary stitch foundation, which creates a smooth, classic fabric surface. The pattern incorporates specialized lace stitch patterns that are worked across the body, measuring 2¾ inches in height over 28 rows when blocked. The gauge for stockinette stitch is 24 stitches and 35 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) when worked on the larger needles and measured after blocking. Accurate gauge checking is essential for achieving the correct finished measurements.

Materials: Yarn and Needles

The Feki is designed to be knit using Berroco Carousel yarn, a yarn that comes in 100-gram balls. The pattern shown uses colorway #4420 Bottle Sand. Yarn requirements vary by size, ranging from 4 balls for the smallest sizes up to 7 balls for the largest size.

The pattern requires two different needle sizes to create proper gauge and fabric structure:

  • Size 3 (3.25 mm) needles: Used for ribbing and textured sections. Required in both 16-inch and 32-inch circular needle lengths to accommodate different stitch counts as the sweater progresses.
  • Size 5 (3.75 mm) needles: Used for the main body stockinette stitch sections where the primary gauge is measured. A spare size 5 needle is needed for the three-needle bind-off at the shoulders.

Additional notions include waste yarn for holding stitches during construction and stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and shaping increases or decreases throughout the knit.

Construction Method

The Feki is constructed by knitting the back and front panels as separate flat pieces, then picking up stitches along the sides to create side panels that transition seamlessly into the overall garment structure. Once all panels are complete, the shoulder stitches are joined using a three-needle bind-off, creating a strong, finished seam at the shoulders. This modular approach allows knitters to work at their own pace and make adjustments before committing to final seams.
