Product Description
Berroco Gracefield is a lovely drop shoulder women’s
pullover knit with an eyelet and bobble motif in Mochi. The sweater is knit
flat in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed. The
sleeves are picked up and worked down. Berroco Mochi is a lofty blend of
alpaca, nylon, and Merino wool that is perfect for creating lightweight
sweaters and accessories. This chainette yarn has a beautiful speckle effect
that adds depth and texture to your knit projects. Mochi has a soft halo and
works up at a heavy worsted gauge, making it an excellent choice for quick and cozy
projects! The lace pattern is in chart form only.

Berroco Gracefield Knit Sweater
What Is Being Made
The Gracefield is a knitted pullover sweater designed by Amy Christoffers. This intermediate-level knitting project creates a fitted sweater with a decorative stitch pattern featuring bobbles. The sweater is available in eight sizes ranging from 38 inches to 68 inches bust measurement, with finished lengths between 24 and 26.25 inches, making it suitable for various body types and proportions.
Knitting Techniques Used
This pattern employs several intermediate knitting techniques that build foundational skills:
- Ribbed edging: The sweater begins with a set-up rib worked over 2.5 inches, creating an elastic edge that hugs the body
- Stitch pattern charting: The main body uses a 24-stitch repeat chart that knitters follow row by row for consistent patterning
- Bobble embellishment: A special bobble technique adds three-dimensional texture to the design
- Circular needle construction: A 16-inch circular needle is used for the neckline, allowing for seamless finishing
- Three-needle bind off: This joining technique creates a secure seam when finishing the shoulder
- Gauge-dependent sizing: The pattern requires knitters to match the specified gauge of 17 stitches and 20 rows per 4 inches to ensure proper fit
Stitches and Stitch Patterns
The Gracefield incorporates essential knitting stitches combined into a decorative pattern:
- Stockinette stitch (St st): The primary fabric base worked in the round and flat sections
- Ribbing: Alternating knit and purl stitches create the elastic cuff at the hem
- Bobble stitch: A special technique where five stitches are created in one stitch, worked back and forth, then decreased back to a single stitch, creating a raised decorative element
- Chart-based pattern: A 24-stitch repeat pattern that creates the main design motif across the body
Materials and Yarn
The Gracefield pattern calls for Berroco Mochi yarn in the colorway #3223 Blueberry. Depending on the size selected, the project requires between 5 and 9 balls of yarn, with each ball weighing 50 grams. Berroco Mochi is a soft, textured yarn that works beautifully with the bobble details and stitch patterns featured in this design.
Needles and Notions
The pattern requires two sizes of knitting needles to create proper gauge and construction:
- Size 6 / 4 mm needles: Used for the ribbed cuff and neckline work, including a 16-inch circular needle for the neckline finishing
- Size 8 / 5 mm needles: The larger needles used for the main body where the stitch pattern and bobbles are worked
Additional notions include a spare needle for the three-needle bind off, one stitch holder for managing live stitches, and waste yarn for temporarily holding stitches during construction.
Difficulty Level and Fit
Rated as intermediate, this pattern assumes knitters have experience with basic techniques and are ready to work from charts and execute special stitches like bobbles. The design includes approximately 4 to 6 inches of positive ease, providing a comfortable, slightly relaxed fit that works well for layering or a classic sweater silhouette.
