What is Being Made

Techniques Used

This hat is constructed using bottom-up construction and is worked seamlessly in the round, eliminating the need for seaming. The seamless, circular construction creates a smooth, professional finish while maintaining consistent stitch tension throughout the project. The hat is worked on circular needles for the main body and transitions to double-pointed needles when the crown decreases become too tight for circular needles.

Stitches and Pattern Details

The Lily hat features a distinctive pattern stitch worked over a multiple of 10 stitches that repeats throughout the design. The stitch pattern incorporates several knitting techniques:

• Knit and purl combinations creating textured ribbing sections
• Yarn forward and slip stitches (slipped purlwise with yarn in front) that create decorative strands held in front of the work
• A unique decrease technique where the right-hand needle inserts under multiple strands held in front and knits them together, creating dimensional texture
• The pattern stitch repeats over 11 rounds, creating a complex and visually interesting fabric

Materials and Needles
