Product Description

Berroco Perham is a simple yet interesting textured women’s pullover knit in Coco. This sweater is knit in the round from the bottom up to the underarms. The body is then divided for back and front. The sleeves are picked up around the armhole edge and worked down to the cuffs. Coco from Berroco is a delightful Merino wool perfect for quick projects. A thick and colorful strand of wool is plied with a thin strand for added strength and stability. Super bulky Coco works up fast, and it is machine-washable.

Berroco Perham Knit Sweater

What is Being Made

The Berroco Perham is a knitted sweater designed by Margaux Hufnagel, available in six size options ranging from 39 inches to 67½ inches bust measurement. This garment features a classic pullover construction with finished lengths between 22 and 25½ inches, offering versatility for various body types and style preferences. The sweater is designed with 2–4 inches of positive ease for comfortable, relaxed wearing.

Construction Techniques

The Perham employs a hybrid construction method that combines multiple knitting techniques for efficient garment assembly. The body is worked in the round from the bottom up to the underarms, creating a seamless torso section. Once the underarms are reached, the piece is divided, and the back and front panels are then worked flat in rows separately. This approach minimizes seaming while allowing for shaping at the armholes and neckline. The sleeves are picked up from the armhole edges and worked downward, further reducing the need for seaming and creating clean, professional finishing.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The primary stitch pattern used throughout the Perham is the Basketweave Pattern, a textured knit and purl combination that creates visual interest and dimension. When worked in the round, the Basketweave Pattern operates on a multiple of 8 stitches, alternating between four rounds of knit-4, purl-4 sequences and four rounds of purl-4, knit-4 sequences, repeating every 8 rounds. When the pattern transitions to flat rows for the front and back panels, the Basketweave Pattern maintains its 8-stitch repeat but is worked across rows instead, with right-side and wrong-side rows coordinated to maintain the offset block effect. This textured pattern adds depth and visual appeal while remaining accessible to intermediate-level knitters.

Yarn and Needles

The Perham is designed to be worked in Berroco Coco, a yarn that comes in 100-gram balls. Depending on the size selected, the pattern requires between 8 and 16 balls of yarn in the colorway #4932 Villa. The project utilizes multiple needle sizes to achieve proper gauge and manage stitch counts: 32-inch circular needles in sizes 13 (9 mm) and 15 (10 mm) for the body, a 16-inch circular needle in size 13 (9 mm) for smaller circumferences, and double-pointed needles in both sizes 13 (9 mm) and 15 (10 mm) for sleeve cap and cuff work. The gauge is established at 9 stitches and 16 rows over 4 inches in the Basketweave Pattern on the larger 10 mm needles, making accurate gauge checking essential before beginning the project. Additional notions include a stitch marker and waste yarn for holding stitches during construction.
