Product Description

Berroco Slope captures chalet chic with its bold cables, raglan shaping, and cozy turtleneck. This pullover is worked from the bottom up in the round to the underarms, where the sleeves join the body to work the yoke in one piece. The yoke flows into the ribbed foldover turtleneck, which ensures that the coziness level of your finished sweater will be dialed up to max. Berroco Lanas Quick is a thick and warm wool yarn that is offered in a wide range of rich, heathered colors. True to its name, projects work up quickly in bulky weight Lanas Quick, and they are the perfect projects to grab when the weather turns cold too! Add Slope to your handmade wardrobe to always have the perfect sweater to keep you warm and stylish for anything from weekends to work days. Cable patterns are charted only.

Berroco Slope Knit Sweater

What Is Being Made

Slope is an intermediate-level knit sweater designed by Alison Green. This pullover features a sophisticated cable panel design and is available in twelve sizes ranging from 39¼" to 71¼" bust circumference. The finished garment offers a modern, fitted silhouette with approximately 4–8" of positive ease for comfortable wear.

Construction Method and Techniques

This sweater is constructed using a bottom-up, seamless approach worked in the round, which minimizes seaming and creates a polished finished product. The body is worked circularly to the underarms, then divided to work the back and front separately. The sleeves are worked in the round and later joined with the body to complete the yoke in the round, ensuring a smooth transition between sections.

The design prominently features cable work, with a 24-stitch cable panel that measures 5¾" across when blocked. This cable panel serves as a focal point and adds visual interest and texture to the finished sweater.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The primary stitch used throughout the body is stockinette stitch (St st), which provides a smooth, classic fabric base. The cable panel incorporates cable stitches worked over 24 stitches, creating dimensional texture. Ribbing using a k2, p2 pattern is worked at the cuffs and likely at the hem and neckline for a neat, elastic finish that helps the garment maintain its shape.

Materials and Tools

Yarn: Berroco Lanas Quick in colorway #77106 Tea Rose. Yardage requirements range from 6 to 11 hanks depending on size, with each hank weighing 100 grams.

Needles and Notions Required:

  • 16" and 32" circular needles in sizes 10 (6 mm) and 11 (8 mm), or size needed to obtain correct gauge
  • One set of double-pointed needles in sizes 10 (6 mm) and 11 (8 mm) for working the crown of the sleeves
  • Six stitch markers, with one in a contrasting color to mark the beginning of round
  • Cable needle for working cable stitches
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Waste yarn for holding stitches

Gauge and Finishing

The pattern specifies a gauge of 11 stitches and 14 rounds over 4 inches in stockinette stitch using the larger needle size. The 24-stitch cable panel measures 5¾" when blocked. Gauge should be checked after blocking to ensure accurate finished measurements, as this affects the fit and drape of the completed sweater.
